      Looks really interesting...
      I'm sure Victor and Jan will make a brilliant plugin...
      Looking forward to see and hear more about this...

        Like I said, I do not have all details yet,I'm sure there will be more info next week.

        Being able to save out the hdri would be awesome, I'd also like to know about animation as well as integration with rendering apps.

          At the TWR forum, Fletch also posted this teaser video in the Skychup thread...

          Here's some interesting questions:

          @chris said:

          As far as I know, all the Motiva products are DirectX based. SketchUp, on the other hand, uses OpenGL. Makes me wonder if they really have plans to integrate directly into SU...

          And further wrote...

          @chris said:

          DirectX and OpenGl are not interoperable, so this either has to be done in OpenGL (certainly possible!) or it's not going to be quite the "embedded solution" it's expected to be.

          Cheers

                Well, we know quite little about it... I mean to little to suggest.

                Maybe... will it be available for rendering plugins / 3rd party studios?

                  Toc toc... πŸ˜‰

                  Let's explain a little more...

                  • Skychup won't be fully integrated in Sketchup since the SDK only provides access to read/write skp files so there is no way to access to the viewport. My intention is to have a "two clicks solution" and comunicate Sketchup with a external app (Skychup) that will render the background according to your camera position and day time.

                  Obviously you can customize your sky and save it in presets to be used in your scenes.

                  • Yes it currently is DirectX based (as ever) but maybe I could change it in the future to OpenGL to offer Mac support.

                  • About HDRI this shouldn't be diffucult but I want to lie to anyone, if you need a very high quality sky you should use Vue/Ozone or some other like this, Skychup will be designed to be a very fast solution.

                  • Free or commercial, unfortunatly we need to pay our bills 😳 so it will be comercial but very cheap (nothing to do with the prices of Vue, Ozone...)

                  • For animation I was thinking about 2 ways one for people that only uses sketchup that will be a big cube around the entire scene (like in video games) so you can change between your scenes and record that camera movement as some architects make. The other way is render a movement like a sequence of files.

                  • Don't ask Solo too much about this, the beta is not out yet (probably the app itself in a week, and the Sketchup connection could take a bit more).

                    I really think that I'll enjoy with this forum 🀣

                    About third party it will be easy since Skychup will use a open xml format to store the scenes and anyone could write his own querys to it (also we'll help them if they need).

                      Well then, I am looking forward to it. It is really nice and if it can be integrated into any of the rendering apps I currently use, I will definitely be a buyer!

                                  I personally don't care what it's called as long as it works, can improve workflow for providing HDRIs (even low quality), is compatible with SU in some easy way, can be integrated somehow into Thea (remember I said "personally" πŸ˜„ ), and is available soon.

                                    Hi Victor,

                                    You may want to have a look at SketchUp's Ruby API (not the SDK)– I think it gives you ample access to the active SketchUp model to render a skydome. Ping me privately if you want more information on that.
