Attach two TINS together?
-
I'm new to sketchup, but not to 3D modeling. I'm creating some rather complex terrain using Sandbox From Contours. I've been creating it in sections, assuming I can stitch the different terrain surfaces together for smoothing as long as they share edges, but can't figure out how.
Is there a way to weld vertices, or to draw a polygon between two objects in such a way that they become joined?

Hi Jackbird and welcome!
When you create a TIN from contours, it will be a group. If you create two, they will be two groups. You need to get the content of one group into the other group (or explode both) to be able to smoothly join them.
Have you got an example model you can upload here as an attachment? If for some reason, they do not match exactly, you can still stitch them together (or there are plugins to speed this tedious, manual work up a bit)

Thanks, that works great. I'd like to hear more about the plugins for simplifying the tedious manual work... I'm already using weld.rb and simplify_contours.rb

Well, there are a couple of good plugins for working with terrain in general:
Terrain reshaper to give your terrain a nicer, even subdivision: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=11320
Point merger (in case your terrains do not precisely match): http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=19838
Curviloft to stitching pieces in case they do not match at all: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=28586
Vertex Tools for super easy manipulation of meshes (this is a commercial one but very useful): http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=29636and probably some more
