GIMP resynthesize

I had a rending of a stage and was messing around with GIMP plugins.
Got this FAIL which was kind of cool in an abstract way.

It looks cool! I have to admit, I wouldn't know how to achieve it if you hadn't mentioned it!
Gimp resynthesize is very impressive (considering that it's open source and exists since 2005). Adobe's new feature is more intelligent, but Gimp is good enough for resynthesizing simple things like bushes and trees.

I never could get Resynthesize to work. Primarily, it is not clear how to download it and install it properly. It is not as simple as downloading plugins in Sketchup, which in itself can be a challenge.
You guys got any ideas? How do you know which folder receives which file? -
The way I understand it is that you have to put the plugin right in with the application itself. I don't know where that is on Windows, but in OSX, you right-click on the GIMP app and choose "Show package contents". Open that up, then drop it in the appropriate folder- usually called 'plugins'.
For free you really can't complain about this software. I just wish more professionals took GIMP a little more seriously.
