Is it possable to use a google satellite shot?

is it possable to use a google satellite shot? I tried to save as an image but sketchup wont load it. i want to trace it to bid a concrete job im helping with.

I am not clear on what you mean. Are you talking about the source satellite picture that is used to apply in Google Earth, or do you mean can you grab the image you are looking at in GE?
I think people do the second thing all the time in Sketchup for modeling.
I think people with GE Pro version get to do a few other things, and they get a higher resolution in the images.

If you are looking to import the satellite picture into Sketchup, try this: File -> Geo-location -> Add location

In earlier versions of Sketchup Pro you could import hight quality GE shots into sketchup to use as a PROFESSIONAL. Why did Google deside to lower the Pro quality for this task? Or is there another way to import high resolution GE into Sketchup Pro 8? As a note: My old models using GE are much better then today.

I regret that I do not have any information on those questions. Perhaps Gaieus will see this post, and may have some info. I could suggest maybe dig around on Google's pages on Earth and on Sketchup concerning image quality and importation.

I tried looking around for more info and finally landed here consequently I found this topic which was close to my question. I would appreciate Gaieus chiming in on this question. The GE image quality imported into Sketch-up 8 is extremely poor in quality. I need high quality images as I am doing large master plan proposals that need professional results. Thank you in advance.

I have been using GE images (non-terrain) for simple conceptual plans or showing existing facilities. However the best way to get an image is still an area of study. Here are things I have found. I am using the SU-from-GE "Add Location" import and also I have GE Free.

I don't know if I buy GE Pro it will be any better for SU "Add Location".
You get higher rez with SU-from-GE if you only select a region about 1 acre or less to "Grab". This has limitations obviously. You can tile your image together I suppose, for better resolution. Has "Google" ghost print on it.
The only way I see to get an image file out of GE (directly without SU) is print to pdf. These can be brought into SU and scaled (there is a scale bar). They don't have the "Google" ghost print all over as do the SU-from-GE. However in my tests the image quality is less than the method in #2 above. If the Pro version gives you higher rez print (per mile) then this may be preferable. I had a friend make a Pro image for me and it was worse than what I could make...

In previous versions of SU, we could only import greyscale imagery. I do not see how they are of better quality than the current colour version. Sure you could reload that image with the colour version exported from GE. If that is a good solution, you can still use SU 7 or 6 to import the GE image/terrain in the old fashioned way and then go on using version 8 with modelling.

In my area, the "best" imagery is rather poor anyway so I do not see any difference.
