They are meant to be enjoyed warts and all, and preferably one-on-one. Mechanical reproduction tends to 'numb' (can't put it any better) the physical intricacies of hand-made products. Things like texture and scale -which, at least to my mind, are inherent qualities of any work of art- tend to go out of the window when a drawing or painting is reproduced.
You could experiment with different media to try and convey a sense of texture, it doesn't have to be a digital print you could always set it up for a screen print on some nice homemade paper?
