Shaderlight render contest
-
To get ourselves in the festive spirit we're launching our first render challenge.
While away the holidays by creating your own Winter Wonderland in SketchUp, render it in Shaderlight and you could win some lovely free stuff! We've got some expert judges on board (including Mayor Mike!) so get creative!
For full details or to download Shaderlight go to http://artvps.com/content/contest
Good Luck!

I tried downloading Shaderlight for SketchUp and downloaded the installer successfully. However, when I try to run the installer, it gives an error, "Google SketchUp could not be found. Please ensure that Google SketchUp is properly installed." I have the free versions of SketchUp 7 and 8. I only use 7. Should I delete 8 or is this not the issue? Anybody else having this issue?
-
I have seen you have posted on to the ArtVPS forum, but if you look here first I will post the response.
This is a strange problem, I am fairly sure this is not down to you having both versions of SketchUp.
Please could you tell me more about your system that you are trying to install on. Please could you tell me what operating system you are running and if it is a localised version. Also could you tell us what anti virus and firewall you are running as we want to see if we can determine what may be causing Shaderlight not to see the information it needs on installation.
You can either post this information here, or email it direct to support@artvps.com

Hey Martin. I posted my response over in the Shaderlight forums. I can put them here if you want them.
I have Windows XP service pack 2. It is not a localized version of Windows as far as I know. I used to have AVG but don't even have that anymore. I turned off the Windows Firewall and tried to install and it did the same thing.
-
Hmmm. I got the e-mail and downloaded both registry files, deleting the underscore as instructed. I even restarted Windows and re-downloaded the Shaderlight installer but still, no success. I get the same error message.

Are we allowed multiple submissions?
-
Yeah, sure - the more the merrier!
-
..... and I hope to see some cheerful submissions as the economic climate and the weather in my current neck of the woods is fairly dismal
-
I'd like to submit this one:

Its full of cold colors, and its rather snowy outside.

Thanks Eric - should have guessed your winter wonderland would be a kitchen! I have to say, it's the cleanest Christmas kitchen I've ever seen!
-
I am thinking about rendering a house with snow on it.. I am still thinking about how I would put snow all over the place.. Maybe with the Subdivide and Smooth plugin...
-
Eric, yes SDS will work, I did one a year ago.
-
I just found my reason to buy that plugin! Nice rendering!
-
Thanks for all your Winter Wonderland renders so far - they've been great. However, to give those of you who've contacted me over the holidays time to finish your masterpieces we've extended the deadline to January 31st 2011.
Keep them coming to shaderlight@artvps.com

I just love the rendering competitions. Hope to see the winning works.

Kate
A question please?
Does Shaderlight multi-thread?
Access available multi-core CPU's
What about x64 ?Very slick plugin but speed is always an issue.
Thx

Yes, Shaderlight uses all possible cores in the CPU when raytracing and shading.
And yes, if you have a 64 bit machine the 64 bit version of shaderlight will get installed correctly. -

Thx for the reply.
FYI the plugin installs as x32 for Win 7 as a default.dtr
