I've been using SU since V4. I now use 7.1 A designer friend has decided it's time to put down his pencils and go digital. He works on a MAC with Snow Leopard and SU 7.1. He asked for some pointers and I was searching around for the Layer toolbar and could not find it. Where is it in the MAC version? I remember a discussion on older versions that it was not possible due to the MAC UI. However, I remember a later discussion where SU was supposed to have made the UI the same between platforms. So how do you switch on the layer toolbar? And if it is not available on the MAC, How do you move objects from one layer to another?

If you go to the Window menu and from there click on Entity Info and Layers.
In the Layers dialogue box use the + button to create a new layer; select the object you wish to move and in the Entity Info box use the down arrow to choose which layer to place it on.
        Hope that helps

        Cheers

          Hi folks.

To get the Layer Toolbar on Mac, right click on the toolbar space on the top of the model window. Then, in the context menu that will appear, choose "Customize Toolbar ...". This will open the palette containing all the tools.

After that, drag the "Layer" tool in the tool bar and complete by clicking the "Done" button on the bottom right.

If you want the Layer dialog window, use "Menu Window --> Layers".

Notice that the Layer Tool on the Mac do not work the same as in the Windows version (on PC). On the PC, it allows you to assign an item to a layer. On the Mac, it makes the chosen layer as the active window but do not assign the object to the chosen layer. To do that you must chose the layer in the pull down list of the Entity info.

This difference in behavior has been communicated to SketchUp developers.

          Just ideas.

Thanks Guys. I was under the impression that the difference in the layer toolbar between the MAC and WIN had been rectified. Since my friend is starting new with SU, he won't know what is missing and will be able just have to learn the other method of assigning objects to layers.
