[Tutorial] Tree[d] to Sketchup
-
This is a tutorial I put together to describe the process of exporting a 3D tree from Tree[d] tree generator into SketchUp and reducing the polys to create a more manageable component. I hope it's helpful.

Thanks for this Wyatt. There are a bunch of steps with a bunch of plugins. I will try it out sometime soon.

Yeah, the process became more complex than I had hoped. But since no on has written the "Make High Quality, Low Poly 3D Tree" Plugin I couldn't figure out a simpler way.

thanks wyatt. following your tutorial i was able to make sense of Tree[d] and make reasonable trees. best,

Awesome Wyatt, works like a charm. It took me a few tries to get everything right. But once I re-read more carefully, I realized you had given specific tips to make everything work smoothly - I had just skipped the tip on my first try. So once I made myself really read each line and do it just how you said, it all came out very nicely.
The only thing I've noticed is that the Replace Similar Components plugin is still not perfect - it can tend to rotate the leaf textures, so that not all the leaf stems are coming out of the branches. Bit of a bummer there. But that part of the process is not really entirely necessary. Hopefully eventually Thom will get that plugin more fully worked out.
Thanks for the tutorial,
Chris

Note that these 3D trees work perfectly (without poly reducing) in Kerkythea or Thea. You will need to adjust the materials though but than after saving, they are just fine.
