Rubik's Pencil
-
I made this a couple months ago just for fun. Comments welcome.
Sketchup > Twilight > Photoshop(levels) > Fotosketcher(borders & text)
-
-
now there's one I can solve.
very nice
-
This would make a fun speed challenge. . .
Rubik's. . .. Whatever
The Rubik's Pencil
The Rubik's Car
The Rubik's Refrigerator
The Rubik's House. . .
-
Thanks guys...Rocky, my thoughts exactly
David, have you seen this? Google's logo in Rubik's cubes...
YouTube - Rubik's Cubes Galore! -
somebody has way tooo much time on his hands.

I might actually join in on this one. I would fail but I need some practice.

I really like your model and rendering.
I made a simple model for the SpeedSolving.com Forum
and I would like to add some rendering effects
but I never used a render.
Do you have any suggestions ? ...
here's the model.thank you.
guzman.I also like the idea of Rubik Whatever for the speed modeling challenge
-
Thanks Guzman. Your model is nice too, rendering would definitely improve it for use as a banner.
Re: rendering suggestions, I use Twilight Render ($99 USD, but the demo is free), it doesn't get any easier to render in Sketchup than that. If you want a free rendering program, you might try Kerkythea(Twilight's big brother).
...OR...since its a 'fun' project for you, maybe we could make it a 'Render This' challenge? That would give you some good ideas help you get started rendering.

btw: does it accept skp files or do I have to convert them somehow?
It works inside Sketchup as a plugin, no conversion necessary.

That would be great ...
and ... if you come up with a nice result we could show the banner to
the SpeedSolving forum, I'm not interested in beeing the only author of the banner.I was also thinking if the reflection effects of your rendering would fit in the banner ... I'm a total noob in this area.
Yes, the reflections would be in the banner, I'll see if Pete/Solo will set up a challenge
-
Thanks for your suggestions Marcus,
I'm gonna try the free version of Twilight,
hope I'll understand the settings ...

@TIG:
There are lots of people that actually build the 1x1x1 Rubik Cube, just to complete the collection. But a true Rubik fan would argue that yours 1x1x1 Rubik cube has the wrong color scheme (green is not adjacent to blue in the standard color scheme) -

Yeah, thanks, I've downloaded it and added it to sketchup.
I'm trying to figure out how to use it ... so many options!
(I've also downloaded the manual). Also: sorry, I dind't mean to hijack your thread
but I thought it was the right place to ask about renderings of a rubik cube. -
I've succeeded in creating my first rendering
(of course it's not good at all, but at least it worked). One problem I see is the fact that the grid in my model is made only by edges
and therefore the grid disappears in the render. Probably I should have done the black narrow stripes of the grid with narrow faces ...thanks again for your suggestions.

Guzman,
Solo has set up a 'Render This' challenge here. Hopefully this will help you get started rendering and give you some more ideas

Thank you, I didn't thought about that possibility,
it doesn't look to difficult to do. I'm gonna try.@d12dozr said:
