Plugins V Extensions.... Whats the diff?
-
Pardon my ignorance guys but I've often wondered what is the difference between Plugins and Extensions.
Why do Fredoscale, Shapebender, 1001bit, profile builder, etc get there own tick box on Prefereces yet plugins like Grow, Roof and Make Fur are located in the Plugins folder? No comprehendo.....

It is something you can make your plugin do - register itself as an extension inside of SU. So it is up to the script author. It takes a few more lines of code to implement is all.
I started putting some of my plugins as extensions so users could disable them if they wanted to, and not have to physically remove the files. But in the end I never felt like it was that useful, so I only ended up making a few of my plugins register themselves as extensions.
So it is just up to the author adding some extra code.

Thanks Chris, Was just wondering why they were scattered all over the place.....

Yea, never found the Extension that useful my self.
Imagine - if all plugins where extensions. It'd be very hard to find the right plugin in the list. No search filter, and the list box is very small. Doesn't scale well.
