Good question Eric. The last few times I brought my laptop but its a drag taking it 12,000 miles. I am thinking this time my iPhone will do all I need, emails, checking SCF and even taking an uploading some You Tube vids. But again, I probably would be lonely without it, so it will more than likely come along.

The last time there was an interesting competition whereby small groups where formed and they set about designing a portable football pitch from what I remember. It proved quite popular and each group made their presentation and a winner was chosen. I don't think there were any prizes .... maybe this time it might be possible to organise some prizes from the various product folks that will be attending. I will look into this and see what I can come up with.

I took my laptop last time and only used it to get ready for my presentation. I don't think I used it outside of hotel. But this time it seems a bit different. I tihnk if you have something you would like to present, you can. But you should have your own laptop ready, or someone's you can borrow. Seems like the unconference might be a bit of a free-for-all. So if you have something you want to show, get it prepared beforehand and you might have a chance to do so in front of a large group. That is what I think I understood....?

I'm planning on taking my camera along with me to get everyone's smiling (or otherwise) faces.

        Chris

I guess it's down to take the netbook (light) or the workstation grade laptop (heavy) or just rely on the Android enabled G1 (it IS Google, after all - right?!).
Maybe I will see if SketchUp will run on the netbook...probably not.

There was talk of attendees doing some show and tell of their work. So what sort of format would be good for that? I've got some magazine illustrations I could show but should I bring the magazines or just the PDF files? Is anyone else planning on showing work? I'd hate to do something that turns into something like the old family vacation movies that make all of the guests fall asleep.

I will be taking my laptop as I would like to show work/be shown work, I think it would be really good to learn first hand and talk about each others work its far better than looking at work and tutorials over the internet, first hand is always better and more rewarding. Plus im useless at rendering so I intend on being cheeky and getting help hopefully it will be a nice relaxed and informal atmosphere making this very easy!

Im taking a camera & tripod and some good hiking boots, going to tackle those big rocks behind boulder one day in the week maybe the monday or tuesday or the saturday before I go home on the Sunday and try and get some good photos maybe a dawn/dusk shot, the scenery is nice according to wikipedia and the weather will hopefully be nice with only a small chance of Bears!

Pondering weather to take my hip flask to basecamp incase its really boring then I have the option of 'spiking the punch' at dinner πŸ˜‰

Bring your beer money, trust me Base camp is not all work and learn, it's also socialising and networking.
Be prepared to have fun, meet new people, meet old friends you have chatted to and never met in person, hang out and have a blast.

For those who do not want to take a laptop; this time (just like last time) there will be a "lab" where we can all play around with SU (maybe with SU 8 already? Who knows?)

Last time we got BaseCamp T-shirts. I don't know about now...

And the labs are labs in order for people to use, chat, change experience and all that stuff (maybe even drink beer?). There were other rooms to do the presentations and organised sessions.

It would be nice to hear from those of you who have been to past Basecamps.

At this time of year in Boulder, daytime temperatures can be in excess of 90F (though likely less), with humidity of 10% or so, and nighttimes can drop into the low 50's or high 40's. Bring a jacket. It got cold at the last Basecamp in Boulder, the night of the party, which was held outside.

I brought my laptop to both basecamps, and used them in both.

Thanks for that Lewis, I was not planning on bringing a jacked.

Turns out my company is going to let me bring their lappy. It is a bit big and the battery life is not so good but it won't cost me a new machine.
