[Talk] Plugins Index

This is a very useful list. For those of us that are purely hobbyists, would it be possible to indicate the free downloads with an asterisk or something. I know you are compiling this list automatically. I wonder if there is some way to indicate cost??
The great majority of the Plugins downloadable directly from this forum [or links] are 'free' - BUT remember that you can [should?] 'donate' to the authors of many of them - especially for commercial use, or when they simply 'saved your ass'. Relatively few commercial 'pay' scripts will link off to their own sites and clearly show the costs on those sites...

I, and some other developers, indicate commercial plugins with [$] in the title. Since most are free it makes more sense to tag those that are not.
-
can you send some plugins to my hotmail ??

Jack,
- Please, do not post your email directly. Spam harvesters will soon start listing it and you get tons of spam.
- What do you mean by "sending"? Why don1t you just download whichever you like here?
-
The link to Trim_extend (by RickW) leads to a page where the plugin is NOT available. In fact it seems that it is in nowhere, now.
-
It appears the trim_extend plugin was a commercial plugin, and was posted by someone other than its original author. Rick explains more in this post. It looks as if Rick simply never got around to making it available again. You should contact RickW here or at http://www.smustard.com for information about the plugin.
I will remove the link from the index list.
This index is not meant to be a comprehensive list of all plugins. Its purpose is to make it easier to find plugins that have been generously posted on our Plugins Forum. (I have a delicious account dedicated to linking all (and only) SketchUp plugins.)

Thanks so much Jim
Seriously helpful!!! -
I've just subscribed to this topic. Will I get an email update when a new plugin is released and the list of plugins here is updated?
-
would be a good idea to add a list of 10 most viewed plugins? or the 10 most downloaded plugins?

You can't do that as when a plugin is updated it's download number resets with each version. Anyway what I think is great might be useless to others. It's a bit like Bovril I suppose.
-
What do you have to do to get a plugin added to this index?
-
make one or post in the plugins forum linking to it. Then one of the mods, Jim, updates the index to contain the plugin.
Have you something to add?
-
There's http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=38431 (Selection Manager) which I posted a couple days ago.
-
When you add the [Plugin] tag to a topic, it will automatically be added to the list when Jim updates it next time (or so I believe at least).

That would a good idea. But as Rich says, the download count is reset whenever a new version is uploaded.
The index is generated automatically by "scraping" the Plugins Forum for [Plugins] posts. Only the first post of each topic is read, and only the most recent few pages are scanned to keep the load down on the servers. In order to keep the download count current, I'd need scan the entire forum every time.

Upload you plugin to the Plugins Forum, and begin the topic title with the [Plugin] tag. The topic will get picked up by the scraper within a few days. (I can also run it on request - it's only a few clicks.) Check the last update - I had ran an update just before you asked, so Selection Manager is now indexed.

Hi,
I've even taken the trouble to put all sources known to me (SketchUcation, Smustard, RLD and Jim's SketchUp [Plugins] Blog) in a Word table together. Likewise with the corresponding Links and authors. In the table, the search is easier by alphabet or Authors.

Added an "Updated Plugins" feature - make any change to the title of your first post (date or version for example) and the script will notice the different, and list the plugin in the Updated section.

Would it be possible to search for an index entry?

Yes, it could fairly easily. All you need to do is to standardize the format and get authors to use it.
