      Hi all,

There is no way that I can justify the cost for the full-blown Photoshop for the amount of work I do with rendering, but was wondering if the baby brother (Elements) could do PP work since I already own that? I mean it has a lot of touchup tools and it can take some plugins.

So, is there anyone who uses this? I would also love a tutorial on PP techniques. If there is a website already, I'd appreciate links.

      Thanks!

      Rick

Elements works great for me. I'm using v4, can't spend the $$$ to stay current.
There are many tut's for PS, you might need to revise a few steps to use in elements.
        Also, search tutorials for elements.

if my work would be only architectural, then Elements would be fine. but since i also do a lot of grafic stuff, unfortunately elements does not do the job.

IMHO the main difference is, that Elements only handles RGB colour formats, and the big Photoshop handles also CMYK colour formats.

otherwise i find most of the commands in both versions, sometimes though in different places. in europe the newest Elements version costs around 80 euros, and i think that is resonable. the price of the big Photoshop is a different matter...

I have a license for PS Element, cost around $55, If I remember correctly. I only got it for use with some plugins that I found interesting. I use Canvas X most of the time as I paid bigish cash for it an got used to using it.

Can anyone tell me is the Content-Aware (or whatever they all it) will be on Elements some time soon?

                  Mike

There is a free and powerfull photoshop alternate -- "GIMP"

                    http://www.gimpshop.com/download.shtml

Has a significant learning curve, but the price is right.

Edit--(didn't see Leedeetee beat me to this alternate)

I use Elements, Gimp, and an older version of PS, depending on what machine I'm on.
I am really getting fond of Gimp. Within its filters menu you can create bump and normal maps that are easy to do and not to bad.
If colors are very important, and you are going to the published page, the The CS suite from Photoshop is a must.
