      Dear Edson,

Is that THE spiral staircase, the one that was discussed a few weeks ago?

      Kind regards,
      Bob

An interesting design solution Edson. Can you post a few plans so I can understand how the building works? BTW, I like the way you place the people entourage, particularly the older man on the right. Maybe you might consider doing an Alfred Hitchcock?

          Mike

Very nice, but for my taste, too polished for a competition;-) I kinda-a like something about:
                  http://concursosdeprojeto.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/ribera-barozzi-plan-5.jpg?w=420&h=239

,but only what it promises. I was a student aid in a Professional AIA comp once, and the winning entry was clearly above the others despite the very poor presentation of its design.

My graduate prof. Utzon's entry in the Sydney Opera House was only selected after the jury decided to re-look the rejected projects.

But in the end, any final selection is only in the eye of the jury:-)

                    hi honolulu,

in competitions I never do what I think the jury may prefer or like: I do what I think is most appropriate to that specific situation.

                    regards.

Hmm........, sorry about that, didn't mean to imply that anyone should second guess the jury. But I can see that what I wrote came off poorly.

                        not at all. no problem.
but you would be surprised to see how many people try to second guess the jury in competitions. I'm not saying this is wrong, just that I do differently.
                        best regards.

I heard the legend that what happened was that the jury had it all already set up when Eero Saarinen who was the chairman had yet not arrived. He came, went to the rejected pile and picked Utzon's proposal out of there.

I have also gone to some competition exhibitions (in Finland all the proposals for an open competition are presented to the public) and have found that as much as I have disliked the architecture of some winners, they always have IMO been the best solutions to the actual problems of the site and brief, and I have found it hard to disagree with the jury, even when having taken part myself.
