World Cup!

After the games last night our, Eamon Dunphy the RTV football pundit had a comment that Capello should have the courage to either have Gerrard or Lampard on the pitch with Crouch!
He backed up this statement by rolling two or three match clips showing they are not working as a team, it was convincing. They are both top class players but sometimes 'primadonas' don't work well together. Dunphy reckons that Crouch should be able to take up the slack.
Interesting points but I'm not sure that the Lampard/Gerrard can't play together anymore holds water anymore. Qualifying was England's best ever performance and both players played in similar roles to last nights. I think there's been a massive over-reaction to last nights performance, England never play well in the first game (the drew opening games in 66, 90 and 96 btw) and they never make it easy for the supporters.

Worst World Cup ever, so far. Any and all atmosphere is being battered into submission by those bloody stupid horns. It's like watching a game on a seriously faulty TV. God knows what it must be like in the stadiums.

Hi Alan
I've been to a couple of rugby games in Soweto and I can't describe how fantastic the vibe is in the stadia - noise and all.
Most friends from Europe seem to be enjoying themselves and are amazed how cheap the food and lodging is here.
So far we have been spared the UK skinheads!

Looks like the noisy horns are getting on Alan's tits also .... must be our age! Maybe it would not be so bad if I was sitting in the stadium, still I wish the TV people could filter them out.
Germany look to be a very cohesive team and so young. They could go on for 2 more World Cups.
I can't wait to see France play so I can boo them ...... shame on me

Today the start off one off the favorites this year,
See the videos on the net from Holland with Love and soccer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkJM4-HaOLsand 1 video why we should be the new world champion.
enjoy the dutch team today
-
Phew!!
That was a different German team, I cannot remember when last I saw a German team so determined, and so un-German looking. They missed many shots that could have made the 4:0 even more horrendous for the Socceroos.
The Aussie couch is in some serious media hot-water today it seems for bad decisions.Okay, time for the Dutch to show their form, they are 18 games without loss, and Denmark have performed badly as of late, so I'm going out on a limb and calling 3:1 to Netherlands.
-
The Netherlands has win their first game 2-0 against Denmark
-
Was it a good game? I'm stuck in work
-
It was a good game, because of the power from the Netherlands Denmark scored a own goal after a corner from the left side. The second goal was a shot from a distance at the post and the rebound from Kuyt (2-0)
In the last minute from the official time Poulssen (denmark) could kick a ball from the line, otherwise the dutch team scored.
Overal the dutch played better, but that was in the second half time. Here in Holland we have now a lot of party's in the streets.
Now the team is on the roll
-
I thought the Dutch were slow and lethargic in the first half, they showed more energy and excitement with the second half substitutions, maybe they heard Ruud's comments in the ESPN studio and got their act together.
Fair result, expected result. So far no real upsets unless you are English that is.
I'm looking forward the the Italy game later.
-
Solo,
Your dutch mum should be proud on you, not on mine english
Here in Europe we think that Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Spain are the teams who will play the semi finals.
-
Haha, Google "World Cup"...
-
I'm interested to know from other Americans if they are also noticing a huge world cup interest in their parts of the country, I have been here for three world cups and this is by far the most popular and watched one so far, even games like yesterdays Germany vs Australia had pubs full in Dallas and this is significant being a Sunday (remember we are the southern tip of the bible belt)
-
-
Pete, there doesn't seem to be much interest up here...the only person I heard talking about it was an African national.
Here is an article from Popular Science about how to use software to filter out the nasty horn sound
-
Oooh!!
Paraguay's keeper let them down, but they did well to hold the world champions to a draw.
Almost an upset. So now it's Spain, Brazil and Portugal to look forward to.
-
half crucial time for Italy,
Paraguay rocks
Italy to improve
Paraguay to step forward ¡

The swis leave the european championship 2008 without any goal against them. So they are good defenders.
Spain had normal attackers, so my predict for this game is 0-0 -
Spain-Suiza
bet for a draw
if we are lucky maybe 3-0
Brazil-North Corea : bet for a draw
if lucky Corea wins )
Portugal-Costa de Marfil : bet for a draw
if lucky Coast Marfil wins :: -
I enjoyed seeing the samba footballers ..... some moments of stylish footwork ... even closeup camera shots
Seemingly the BBC has complained about those bloody horn blowers.....
BBC3 issues apology for constant droning noise during it’s Confeds Cup coverage
.... and the South African guys could care less. They might change their minds when the viewing numbers drop and the revenue!
