I had a reoccurring issue with a recent LO project, Several times on update the texture map on the ground plain disappeared. This was an orthographic photo of the site. Even re-inserting the scene from the SU model didn't work, I even started a new LO project and the the map would still disappear. The only work around was to open up SU and send the scene back to a new LO project. The SU model was large - 43 meg in size and the LO project ended up at 33 meg.

I don' think the system is the issue, I run an HP Z600 Workstation (64bit) Intel Xeon X5550 @ 2.67 GHz with 6 GB of Rom and a Nvidia Quarro FX 4800 graphics card with 1.5 GB on board.

Has anyone had similar issues? I use a raster setting while I work and update manually.

        can it be a z-fighting problem? http://sketchup.wikia.com/wiki/Z-Fighting

Sometimes, when I close a 2d polygon, sketchup generates 2 or more faces inside it. It doesn't look as a classic z-fight, because I can't see it flickering, but when I render it or when I export it to LO the colour/texture can change.

Let's suppose that you have 2 coexisting faces: one is textured and the other is plain, untextured. While SU the textured face "stays on top" so that you can see it, it can happen that in LO the textured face goes under the other one. Then, all you can see is a flat untextured area.

Hi plhowatt (and welcome to SCF),

I have been reading your post over the SU Help Forumsfor awhile, too, and really have no idea what is happening in your file. How big is that texture map (in pixels)? Also, are you properly updating your scene in SU before you are sending the SU file to LO?

(These are really just stabs in the dark and certainly such a big file could not even be easily shared even if you wanted/could/were allowed to)

It doesn't appear to be a Z fighting issue,If I select the face with a crossing the properties say that its a single entity and if I delete it a hole appears.

The original texture map was derived from an "A1" size pdf that was exported as a jpg at 150 dpi so that would make it approximately 5000x 3400.

That may be too large for SU and perhaps even for LO.
SU with its OpenGL engine can only handle 2048x2048 pixel images (true however that it just gracefully degrades bigger ones to this display limitation).

This can still affect memory usage but without the file I cannot say anything certain. (Maybe not even with the file).
