Hi
I had SketchUp installed on a Celeron 1.7GHz laptop with 512 Mb ram and 80Gig HD and it ran quite well until the model got too busy.
Just been upgraded to a Dual-Core 1.6Ghz laptop with 2Gig ram, 160Gig HD AND 512Mb ATI Radeon video card. However Sketchup appears to be running a bit slower than my previous laptop. (Crazy I know) Don't get me wrong, it is working but it's "ticking" when I orbit the object (i.e. not smooth motion) and the model has only just been started.
Installed Splinter Cell PC game and it runs BRILLIANTLY.
Is there something I'm missing? SketchUo configuration? Video Card configuration?
P.S - Am busy downloading unrelated file from the web at the same time

Hi Onid,
I would suspect the video card. Neither processor is very great for SU but there is no significant differences between them so that should not be the problem. Try to update your driver - maybe that helps. I used to have an old computer with an ATI Radeon X550 (I think) and that was not a great card for SU either (made no difference if I checked or unchecked hardware acceleration under Window > Preferences OpenGL - actually you can try fiddling around there yourself).

Thanks
Swithced off hardware acceleration and SketchUp was 'freed' immediately. However I noticed after a while that even then there was a fractional moment where it didn't respond.
I switched off my anti virus on screen monitor and this lag dissappeared. So I switched on hardware acceleration again and noticed that there was no lag AT ALL. So looks like my anti virus was causing this delay in response.
Will have to use gaming mode in the future or disable the anti virus altogether.
Thanks again

Hm. This is interesting info - thanks for coming back with it. My antivirus software also has "Gaming mode" never known what the heck it is.
(However it is turned on as I have now checked.)
