In co-operation with Google SketchUp and Ínformatíx - Píranesí 2010, SketchUcation proudly announces the SketchUp to Píranesí Competition with great prizes worth over $ 4,000!

This contest is designed to highlight the SketchUp to Píranesí Plug-in and the ‘Design to Art’ abilities of Píranesí 2010. We will be accepting entries in two categories, Exterior Renders and Interior Renders.

This competition is open to all. In order to level the playing field we ask each competitor to indicate their level of experience in both SketchUp and Píranesí. This self assessment will be taken into account when judging. This requirement will offer a fair chance to the beginner. A fully working 30 day demo version of Píranesí 2010 may be downloaded here – Windows and Mac.

Sketchup Pro can directly export to EPX, the native file format of Píranesí. Users of the Free version of Google SketchUp can export their models using a plugin downloadable on this page (some workflow suggestions useful for Pro users as well).

Closing date for entries will be on the 15th June 2010. The contest results will be announced on the 15th July 2010 on SketchUcation.

Prizes: There will be 1st Place and Runner Up prizes in each category.
1st Place Prize (Each Category – Total Value $1595):

      • Píranesí 2010 Pro License ($965 value) and

      • Google SketchUp Pro 7 License ($495 value) and

      • Wacom Bamboo Fun Pen & Touch S Graphics Tablet ($135 value)
Runner Up Prize (Each Category – Total Value $440+):

      • Píranesí 2010 LITE License ($440 value) and

      • Pair of SketchUp Socks (Priceless!)

The first 10 Entrants will received a free SketchUcation Baseball Cap, so start working straight away!

Judges: The contest will be Judged by:

      • Paul Lloyd – Ínformatíx
      • Adrian Williams – Ínformatíx
      • John Bacus – Google SketchUp
      • Aidan Chopra – Google SketchUp
      • Mike Lucey – SketchUcation
      • Csaba Pozsárkó (aka "Gaieus") – SketchUcation

      Submissions:

A selection of the best contest entries will be featured on the The Daily CatchUp. You can create new SketchUp models for the renderings, or use existing models you have created in the past, and use Píranesí 2010 to render them.

All images submitted are to be .jpg format, no larger than 1280 x 1024 or 1024 x 1280 resolution. Post- processing is not permitted. (No more than 3 contest entries per user)

Note that only SketchUp models are allowed, so please, do not submit entirely imported models although imported plans and elevations for instance or for entourage are of course allowed.

Submit your entries by email to: scf(at)sketchucation(dot)com from the email account you are registered at SCF with. Include the name you want to be identified by when the entry is posted to The Daily CatchUp or your SCF screen name will be used. Also advise your level of experience in both SketchUp and Píranesí, Beginneror Advanced.

      Rules:

      • Finalists will have to submit their Model and Render to SketchUcation for verification. Your model will not be disclosed to others without permission.
      • The final image needs to be created using SketchUp geometry and rendered using Piranesi 2010.
      • Entries are assessed principally on the basis of: SketchUp model quality and Piranesi 2010 rendering based on the entrants level of experience. Express permission is given to SketchUcation, Ínformatíx and Google SketchUp for publishing images in any form.
      • Entries may not contain logos, signatures or watermarks which identify the author.
      • Any entry, which in the judges’ decision, breaks the rules will be disqualified.
      • The judges’ decision is final.
You can download the above "announcement" as a pdf document below.

      Happy competing!

Again, please, do not submit entries here in this topic but send it via email tothe address above.
Ido not want to lock the topic because some members may have questions.

            Subject: Twilight and Piranesi

I have just read this excellent tip by Shura over the Twilight Render Forum:

            @shura said:

            Hello Neal,

If you are looking for a workflow to paint into your Twilight render with Piranesi, then try this:

1 Export an Epix file from the view in Sketchup that you want to render
2 Render exactly the same view in Twilight and save the render as bitmap image
3 Open the Epix in Piranesi
4 Import the rendered Image into the Piranesi Epix (a new layer will be created)

now you can paint into your Twilight render in Piranesi.
I am using Piranesi 2010 which supports layers, but I dont know if the same process works for older versions without layer support.
Just recently I had a render done where a complex and slender truss came out too bright. Fixing it in Piranesi took only a few minutes.

            hope this could help
            alex

FYI; the Piranesi Contest is still open (until the 15th) so if anyone interested, feel welcome to post some entries!

Yeah!? What's going on? I've been excited since June 15th to find out how everyone did. I don't know how much longer I can wait....the tension is killing me.

Sorry guys, one more vote is needed as there were some login problems (as well as me ended up with a couple of days without internet access). I know it's frustrating but please, allow one or two more days.

It is disturbing to wait for the result without any precise schedule, for we have cost too much time on it.Maybe the internet is not the only method to decide or vote.

                              Hi Geshu,

I am really sorry for this delay. We indeed had some problems (one judge is no longer working for Piranesi for instance so we had to swap people, set up new permissions etc.) but other than using the internet, there is no solution for us as the judges live in the US, Ireland, UK and Hungary.

We have already voted - now just double checking if the results are correct.

Please forgive me for being so rash and rude.I was too eager to know the result to consider any other situations
I have to say sorry and thanks to the competition assistants and judges, especially Gaieus.
