I am Sean and have struggled putting together a terrain model for a large shrimp farming project. I have attempted two ways of importing from Auto-cad.
first attempt was to import with points cloud ..close but no cigar...too complex etc.
second, which has bore me fruit was parring down the AC file then importing into SU contour line which have the elevations. once I downloaded I used the plugins , weld and simplify contours which has worked well. I removed all the cloud points 2200 and all unnecessary layers once the model was in SU. Im happy until I went to drape the roads layer onto the terrain model. I need some help or suggestions. the road layer I toggle to its place in the model correctly. its a component, do I explode or edit component it in order to highlight the lines within? When I have done this I push the drape tool then a little yellow and brown Icon appears and asks me to pick the surface to be layered. I try to pick the main terrain model by editing component but it never seems to work. Also problems dropping 1200 acre shrimp pond component into the model with stamp tool. I read James the experts advise on how to do this..and its worked well until now. May I attach the SU model to James if that may help my Email in Calif USA is [removed email]... [removed telephone#] USA I am using SU pro 7.1 and PC quad processor, terrabite hard drive and Invidia 7800 video card...its a big model 4 miles x 2 miles ....please advise Sean πŸ˜’

        Hello Sean

Is your terrain a component? I think you need to have it totally softened 180 degrees, or make it a component before you drape.

Shrip farming, eh? Sounds fun πŸ˜„

Oh and to edit the lines in a component, I would edit it. This can be done by double-clicking the component.

        Good luck!

              Wow, Sean.

60MB? A very large file...Don't think my computer can handle it, so I did'nt download it. Sorry.

Sean, if you purge all un-used components, layers, materials, and styles from it, does it get smaller? And how about deleteing all materials.

You might have to do both those things to make it small enough to upload somewhere. You can also try to .zip it too.

                Chris

Lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter.
