I want a base covering so everything stays level
-
I have started my "take 2" of house again. On the first attempt I built on top of 'bitmap' plan and it didn't show me a problem until later on. So this time I've finished the ground floor plan with the tools, only this time I removed the 'bitmap'straight away when I finished. Some room areas atuomaticaly filled with default covering but two thirds of them remain clear, and I dodn't know why. Any ideas?

John,
In order fo faces to form, they have to
- be co-planar (i.e. with the same Z axis value all over a plan)
- form a closed loop (i.e. no "gap" anywhere around)
- and there should not be any stray geometry poking into the loop from the edges.
There are a couple of things that can still prevent the faces to fill. You can try to re-trace some of the existing edges to see if faces form.
Also, please, attach your model (the skp file) so that we can have a look.

It came through just fine the first time John.
Yup, it is just like Gaieus says. Start retracing some of teh groundplane. Specifically what SU is having a hard time with is the little loner lines. The single lines that lie flat on the floor and do not connect to anything. Connect them to something until you fill the entire floor area, then delete the temporary connetor lines. Or just delete the single little lines in the first place if you can get away with not having them. Then retrace a little bit ont he floor to close the face.
All in all it cleaned up rather quickly and is a nice little floorplan.

And a video (no sound, might take a minutoe or two to load). At first I just delete the single lines and then draw in some lines to create the floor. THen delete the temporary lines. Then I also show how to leave the single lines in place and then just delete the temporary geometry afterwards again. The dashed lines I turned into a component just because they were in the way. So I did not want to delete them, but I did not want to take the time to drawfrom each one to close that floor face. Turning them into a component gets them out of the way of the floor geometry I was making, but leaves them in place so they can still be seen.

Thanks Chris I've done that sucessfully. I'm going to 1st floor the same way but as it will be my 2nd attempt, I was wondering how to check that it will fit the ground floor especially where the top of the stairs meet.
Now I will be puting the ground floor base on layer 1 and then level 0 free to complete 1st floor base.
I then want to put them both on 'our house (2)' as a back up should things are not right as I go along.
As each stage is proved to be OK I will carry on with 'our house (2)' as they are completed.
Am I going the right way? Your thoughts would be most welcome.I am signing off now and looking forward to tomorrow.

Your right it did take a while, it was very good to see what was done. I was glad that I did it the same way.
Go and do the walls as well or just do 1st floor first. I don't think it will be a problem, is there?Like I said I'm off line now. I'm tempted to carry on but my eyes are tired and thats when mistakes happen.
p.s. You can only do a moving screen shot like the one showing me the answer to the solution?
Many thanks John
