Large area surfacing w/ Sandbox: Need help!
-
Please help! I am having no luck using sandbox to surface topography of a 100+ acre, very hilly site. I've only been able to get 1/3 of it surfaced, which took all night for my machine. The file size is now about 120megs, which is unmanageable. I've purged all. Don't know what else to do. It seems there needs to be something fundamentally changed with the way SketchUp works because I'm finding the only suggestions on these forums is to determine what hardware your computer has. That makes sense to a point, but it is getting a bit nit picky with what you need to have.
We've had myself and another person with a newer computer work on surfacing a smaller section of the site to compare results. Why would one person on one computer get a model that is almost 3x as large (file size) as another?
Can version 10 of SU fix these fundamental issues (nit picky hardware requirements, file size, clipping, etc.), or will it just get a few new features that only work with a sufficiently simple, small model?

Sounds like you might have to simplify the contours a bit before making the terrain. That is just the nature of the beast.

Seems I read somewhere sometime in this forum that you can do a large terrain in smaller sections, whatever smaller means and make components of these to manage file size. However, what I understand is that even with a really powerful computer, there will be issues. But, I am not entirely sure, since my gear is woefully below par.
