      Hi-

I am an architecture student trying to get a sketchUp file to be 3d printable and I am having difficulties.

I have used CadSpan on my model and can get a STL file to open in SolidWorks as a part but is not able to be saved as an STL file. The 3D printer software is also not recognizing the CadSpan STL file.

I am seeking advice on workflow path/software from those who have had success 3D printing a model designed in sketchUp-

      Thanks!

Got a model you need tested?

I can give it a go using Deep exploration and you can then evaluate how it works.

              Thank you!
I'm on spring break this week from school so I don't have access to the printer until next monday, is "Deep exploration" an STL conversion program you ran on my model? Is there a preferred software to use for going from sketchUp to STL?
I am the first architecture student at my school to get access to the 3D printer so I am learning as I go...

Here's your model with some notes pointing to things that 3d printing does not like.

I've been playing around with shapeways recently - they accept collada files so you don't even need to go to a .stl.

In general, your model needs to be scaled to fit on print bed, be water-tight, and not have any interior faces. And no over-lapping faces.

Following those rules, I can consistently produce 3d-printable model directly from SketchUp (for shapeways, anyhow.)
