Hi Richard,
Why would SU not be able to create 2D floorplans?
Also, although most "already made" furniture and stuff freely available are 3D, surely using 2D objects would be easy, too. For another forum topic, I made this (very simple) 2D model:

If you download it, you can see that for instance moving that 2D loo around is pretty easy with the tool. -
Thanks for the reply. I tried a free trial download of Smartdraw and had a floorplan in no time. It just isn't very intuitive in Sketchup. At least not for me??

Well, one definitely has to invest a bit of time to learn SU and of course, its strength is not 2D but 3D so if there is a better app for drawing simple 2D floorplans, of course, use that instead. (I have never used Smartdraw)

I've used SU for basic 2D plans...it works fine, but gets messy when adding 3D models to 2D plans.
For best results in drawing 2D plans, set your camera to parallel projection, top view and draw the plans zooming and panning as necessary, but without orbiting at all. Tig's 2D toolset may help you as well.

Richard, took a quick look at Smartdrw. It is a diagramming tool, completely different from Sketchup which is 3d modeling. IMO, if all you need are 2d plan diagrams, SU may not be the product for you.

If you export your floor plan from Project Dragonfly to a drawing, the DWG is compatible with AutoCAD 2007 and higher. In the event that you need an earlier version of the drawing, you may download the free Autodesk DWG TrueView and and use the DWG TrueConvert functionality to convert the drawing." -
SU can import 2007 type files so that should be all right.
