Best office suite free the rest of 2009
-
I haven't advertised for software on the forum before, but this deal is just to good!
Softmaker Office 2008 is a full featured office suite, and my office suite of choice, if that matters to you guys
From my experience it works seamlessly with microsoft office, and you can even set it to save as excel and word as default.
It has the option to install as a portable app, exportsas pdf, it is realy fast and you can customize almost the entire UI.
The office suite contains Textmaker (like word), planmaker (like excel), presentations (like powerpoint) and basicmaker (which I haven't found a use for yet)Download it here:
http://loadandhelp.de/home-en.htmlYou can read more about the suite here:
http://softmaker.com/english/ofc_en.htmApparently every download donates 10 euro cents to charity:

What's the difference (or maybe "superior" features) between this and OpenOffice?
-
In my experience it is MUCH faster, and it might just be me, but I find that important when choosing software.
It reads and writes excel and word files better. I didn't really have any problems with writer when I was using open office, but there were several problems when opening excel files in calc.
The interface is revolutionary, but it is minimalistic and highly customizable - I dig that.
But I can't say that you will like it better than open office - that's up to you guys to find out. All I'm saying is, that I think it is really good and now it won't cost you anything to try it.
You can read the feature list at link in the first post or here, if you want to compare the two:
textmaker: http://softmaker.com/english/ofctm_en.htm
planmaker: http://softmaker.com/english/ofcpm_en.htm
presentations: http://softmaker.com/english/ofcpr_en.htmI'm sure there are reviews out there that would favor open office, I just didn't bother to search any further

Hi,
the difference is, it costs 79 € and there is a 30-days trial and Open Office is free.

Oh, don't get me wrong - I was not "testing" it (and as much as I use any office apps at the moment, it could be anything actually). I was honestly asking if you had any experience.
If not, no problem at all.

...it's cool gaius, I kinda got it
I have actually used both open office and softmaker. I prefer the latter, mainly because of the reasons I described in my second post. But people normally have very independent preferences when it comes to software. Features, performance, GUI and so on. So it's probably easier to try it out for yourselves.

hi,
i've tried this out in work and home and must say that starting up it is extremely fast and the UI is very forgiving and adaptive.
but this doesn't outweigh the scrambling of .docs and .ppt files. I use ms office alot and textmaker had lots of issues with inserted graphics in .doc files. With .ppt files there were issues with fade transitions and inserted graphics.
personally i won't use this as ms office is very stable and as industry standard it will take some beating. but for members who don't have ms office i would highly recommend softmaker over openoffice.org
thanks for sharing 2kemon

Unlike SKetchup that appeared as a cheap easy to use 3d choice between Autocad at the top end and, well, blender at the free end, I really can't see that Soft Office stands a chance. Open Office is free and easy to use with only very minor compatibility issues.
