3D Mesh Painting
-
Hi folks!
I was wondering how many of you guys actually use some kind of 3D painting tool, and if you do, what would be the pros and cons of painting directly on a model vs. unwrapping a three-dimensional mesh to a flat two-dimensional image?
Is there a workflow between SU and some "painting" app that you use?
Thanks in advance. -
I don't do it, but there is 3D painting capabilities in Blender, Modo, ZBrush and Photoshop CS4 Extended. I believe the modeling apps require you to unwrap the mesh first and then paint directly onto the UV's. Also try perhaps 3D Coat or Deep Paint.

From what ive heard, photoshop's 3d painting tools are pretty crap, although thats only second hand experience.
I believe zbrush allows you to paint directly on the mesh, at least im sure pilou has posted a vid of someone doing that in zbrush at some point.

Thanks for your replies, guys!
I´m going to try out some demos and see how it goes ( I have attempted to learn Blender, but I am not really happy so far ).
Cheers!
