Any Idea on how to get an impersonator off the warehouse?
-
Well you kinda missed the point. The thing is, there is a pseudo goldenfrog on the warehouse and sometimes he rates me. But he's gone now, so there's no point to this thread now. And check this out: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=4753643e13f1fcc0f6c80f6a5291c505
See what you think
-
So if there is no point to this thread, you shuoldn't have bumped it back to the top with a sigh - right?
-
I don't get the point to this thread, you post this link: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=4753643e13f1fcc0f6c80f6a5291c505 which shows a car and if you go to the ratings you see many 5 star ratings and one by Scott para that's not 5 star, so what are you trying to say?
That scott rated the model to low? everyone else is right and he is wrong, what?
Why post and allow rating if you do not want anyone to rate a model lower than 5 stars?
Personally I agree with Scott, it ain't a particularly good model.
Confused about this thread....
-
No, solo, that link was for ely862me who said my cars wernt so good so I gave him the link to the model so he could see that my cars were actually pretty good. The link has nothing to do with the thread. Sooooo...yeah, people dont seem to get this thread. Oh well my impersonator is gone so...
The ratings on that model have nothing to do with the thread. Just posted it to show ely862me that my cars were pretty good.
-
Actually, I would be more worried about your modeling than someone modeling or saying they are you.
The cars are not all that good to be honest. There are some major scale issues not to mention you call out yourself that the rims and tires are not good. Why post something you could fix? really not a good sense of self-promotion is it?
Not sure why people post things they are not completely happy with. A lot of people see your work and do you want to be remembered for that?
I think we DID get the point of this thread. Your bent that someone would call your work out as not good (as I did also), who knows maybe the other "Goldenfrog" can fix your rims, tries, and scaling issues for you.
If you post your work here or anywhere else you need to be open to people comments both good and bad. Artists who can open their minds and accept comments and learn from them become masters....those who live in a bubble and can only see their work as good stay in a bubble. Example....post one of your cars on http://www.cgsociety.com or http://www.cgcafe.com and ask for comments!

Hi Scott, What scaling issues are you talking of? Constructive critisism is always welcome. Also, maybe I havent been very articulate. I guess what I'm trying to say is, mandun is immpersonating me by creating an account called goldenfrog and rating other people badly. I'm used to dealing with one star ratings myself--I search their name, and give some sort of witty comment. Other people rate one star to the person who rated them one star. That is what mandun is trying to get people to do. He rates them bad, then they search "Goldenfrog" and rate me badly. And I notice no one has answered my question. That's OK, cos he's gone now. Instead of talking abut ways to improve my models here, go to my thread about my models.

Hence the reason that the warehouse is utter garbage in my opinion. There is 99% crap to 1% I would even consider downloading. There are no checks and balances as to what is being uploaded or the quality of the submissions. People can make a box and call it a house and their friends give it a 5 star rating. They need to change the name to 3D Sh*thouse. If you want to post your work so that it can be judged by professionals and get honest comments then like I said before, places like CGsociety and CFcafe are 2 of the best for 3D artwork. As always go into it as a learning experience and not as people trying to tear you down. I would look at some of the car submissions first so you can see what others have done and how your work might stack up. Another thing is try to present yourself as a professional artist. What I mean here is you name your car "Wowww", while that might of been your feelings at the time you finished the model I doubt the car would ever be badged as a "Wowww" or "Wowww GT" right? You have to understand posting your work for all to see, whether it be a forum or a place for others to download is a representation of yourself. People will remember you by your work, both past and present. When tagging a model you might get more people to see your model if it is tagged other than "car, car, car and car".
Now on to scale. I downloaded your model. My first impression is one of questioning what you used as reference. Your car is just over 8" tall so I am not sure what your market audience would be other than an insect with the intelligence to drive. The model is the very basic form of a "car" but is missing ALL the details. Not to mention I have to question much of the design content. A square cut out for a grille? There are more than enough great plugins that will let you "model on surface" and open up more possibilities for creative design. I am not sure whether a car that small (even if it were to scale) would need enormous exhaust pipes. I understand the trend with cars is the lowered huge exhaust pipes look but it is unrealistic not to mention bad practice. My best advice is if you want to be a car designer, find a few guys doing it well and shadow them. Follow their posts, ask questions and have them comment on your work with suggestions for improving your designs.I think many forums are far too easy on people (this being one of them) and give people the false idea that alot of work is good when it is not. As artists we need to be critical of eachothers work. We need to give honest opinions without the fear of our peers calling us out as being "hard" or "overly critical". You or I will never learn from real masters if we can not take their comments and grow from them. Sometimes a hard comment can be tough to take but if you always take it as a learning experience you will be a better artist in the end.

- I think that the warehouse is about 60% worth downloading ad 40% lousy. I don't think it is as bad as you think it is. Take a closer look at it. I assume youre trying to say that my model belongs in the 99%?
- CGSociety and CFCafe: I don't really think I'll get permission to be there. If I do, I will do as you suggest.
- I dont really care about appearing too professional. I joined the warehouse to show my models and basically have fun. Also, I am not going to be a car designer, just upload cars for fun. However I do agree that the filename wowww is not the most professional sounding of titles.
- The car was a concept. I did not use any refrence. I was not aware of the pathetic scaling, I will fix that when i have time. Hang on. I just checked it, and it was almost 8'! You must have measuered quite incorrectly. Check it again.
- I guess I should fix the grille. I will get a plugin. I believe it is called tools on surface.
- Thanks for your advice. I'll try to fix up the stuff you talked about. By the way, I'm interested in seeing some of your work. Where can I find it?
-
Near this car how would u rate urs ? 5 stars?
There is a lot to do,,, and don t get mad for honest opinions .

Or take your pick and type models by Scott in the search box. I might add that the iPod player has about half the number of faces that you have used just to model the door handles on the Wowww car. That's skill...you're being offered good advice.
All of these[/url:2mae74ur] cars are modelled using between 3000 and 5000 faces. This[/url:2mae74ur] little beauty has only 3437 faces. Yours has 24,700. That's why many of us regard the rating system on the warehouse as a complete joke.
-
- I VERY rarely go to the warehouse after seeing much of what has been posted there. I still stand by my number. I never siad your model was in the 99%....you did.
- Anyone can join and post. It is an open forum once you register.
- You should care no matter what you are doing. Remember it is how your peers view you. The fact that you do not care shows one of a few things or all of them...Immaturity, lack of passion, or lack of belief in yourself.
- Oh I am sorry....8 FEET high. Come on when is the last time you walked up to a car that tall? A Hummer H2 is just over 79 inches high!
- Yes, tools on surface.
- You can see the stuff I did while modeling professionally at FormFonts that Alan was nice enough to link to, or you can view my blog for more architectural stuff. While I would love to post the stuff we are doing currently in the design studio here at Chrysler but for the reason of liking my job and needing a steady paycheck I can not. I have posted some that have been released that we have worked on though. Hopefully you can see the difference between these and yours. While we use a completely different pipeline for modeling and rendering the concept is still the same. "Believeability" is all about the details. All of those rendering are based on geometry and a proprietary HDRI for lighting. Thats it.

One last thing. Take the comments from ely862me as help not as him beating you down. Look at his work...are you telling me you have nothing to learn by someone of his talent?
-
G. F., I decided to have a look at your to see what the fuss is. So is it designed for people to ride in standing up? I have to agree with the others. It looks nice enough but it needs a lot of work. You're being offered a lot of constructive criticism. It would be smart of you to accept what is freely given.
-
Thanks guys. Were those renders...? Ely862me has alot of skill, most definatly. I think, in answer to your question, ely862me, i would rate my car 3 stars. Sad you arent on the warehouse. I would love to see a car tutorial from you. Scottpara, Ok, I get the point. but the scale (to me) does not really matter. For example, one of rogue's models is 2,000,000 metres long. Dave R.: (Nice avatar you have ) It is not designed to be ridden in standing up. I think I ought to take the critisism and work to make my model better. Or, if ely862me uploads a tutorial, then I'll start another project. OH! Yeah, ely862me's tutorial is on youtube right?
-
Yes, those three are renders.
Just because one person wants to model for giants does not mean you shouldn't know scale. It is basic practice.

Good idea.

Thanks on the avatar comment. He's two years older now. I probably should get a new picture.

That's a common problem with models on the 3D Warehouse. Too many people don't bother drawing their models to proper size which makes them unusable for anyone else. You might as well upload JPGs of your models to an online photo album then.

I feel your pain. You'll never get back those 3 seconds which it takes use the scale tool to make the model the correct size.

Unfortunately it often takes more than just the Scale tool to fix models in the 3D Warehouse.
