Use Pro at home and office?
-
Hi All
I have a single user network license for SU Pro at work. Sometimes i want to work from home. Is there a way that i can still use the Pro version at home? (for example the Adobe CS suite allows two installs under one license). -
I'm not sure how it works with the network license, but under the regular license, you are allowed to install and use it on all your computers. You just are not supposed to run SU simultaneously. So I don't know if there is a way to put your network license at home.
Also, consider installing the free version at home. It is not missing too much over the pro version (unless you use layout or style builder).

Thanks for the reply. I dont use layout or style builder at all. But i do use alot of these great ruby scripts and I constantly reimport autocad files. For now i have Pro running 'hobbled' at home. It seems to work fine. Although i cannot import dwg files with the non-pro version. I think making some crazy WAN share for the license file will be overfill. Too bad. Doesnt seem possible to have home/work installs with a network license version(at least autocad and adobe CS allow it). Ahh well.....

Hi wrw,
Download the (free) dwg/dxf importer for SU 7.1 Free here:
http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=161784Note that it won't be supported in later versions but you can always keep your SU 7 when an upgrade comes out.
I was also thinking why would one purchase a network license if he only needs one license. Would a standalone license not be more practical? (None of my business really - I am just curious)

I did find that DWG importer link so thanks for the reply. At work, i float around a few PCs or sometimes someone else can work in SU if I am not so actually the network license has worked well in that way.

Okay, not questioning its usefulness.
Did you try to license your home computer with it, too?

I am trying to get the powers that be here purchase a seat of SU Pro. My question is that if I wanted to also use it at home, my home machine is a Mac and work is on PC. Does SU allow for multiple platforms? Until then, I will be doing just what was suggested - using the free one on Mac.
Thanks,
Rick

No, the two platforms have different licenses.
