My first model
-
Hello all,
I have just completed my first model in Google SketchUp. This project has been worked on and off over the last few months, and has been final completed thanks to your assistance.
I have submitted the model to the Google SketchUp warehouse here:
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=6f63df7ca322514f41ced50d3a574698I was hoping to be the first to submit this type of model to the warehouse, but unfortunately I was beaten only recently by someone else.
Please provide some constructive feedback so I can improve my future models.
Thanks,
T1000.

Hi, T1000!
Nice model you got there. As far as I'm concerned, the only suggestion would be the one I have already heard - waiting to see rendered. -
Hi T1000,
Nice model, indeed. My only critique (after a short look) would be that there are a bunch of back faces outside. These should normally be reversed and only front faces (the white ones) displayed. Maybe one other thing - you seem to use quite (or relatively) many greys/blacks. Do you think it is necessary? I mean some slight shading difference cannot really be visible.
-
Now that you have mentioned it Gaieus, it really looks kinda dark ( I havenยดt inspected the model from the 3DWH ).
Perhaps some details on the display? -
@ numbthumb
Thanks. Maybe it's time I learn to render also? Is there a free program that you would recommend?@ Gaeuis
Thanks for your critique. I'm not quite sure what you're referring to re the outer black faces which should be reversed? Regarding the use of different blacks, the only time I used this is in the charger port to show some of the details which would be hidden by the heavy use of black. Otherwise, the model uses only one shade of black. The image below is a photo of the same product, which shows why i needed to use so much black
Thanks,
T1000

The image below shows what Gai meant; all the faces on the outside of the model should be white. This is very important if you are going into rendering and a lot of 3rd party rendering software relay on the front face/back face principles. You check your face orientation by using the 'monochrome' button in the visual style toolbar. -

As for the free program, the first thing that comes to my mind is Kerkythea - http://www.kerkythea.net/joomla/

Yes, what Toby showed. Those reversed faces will behave weird and in any kind of unexpected way once you want to render them.
Otherwise nice model, a good deal of details and refinement. Good job - especially for a "first model"!
Maybe at some places, some faces (that shoundn1t) are autofolded (see it in monochrome and with hidden geometry on)

@ Tobobo and Gaieus
Thanks for clarifying. I`ll will resolve those issues before I start playing around with the rendering.@ numbthumb
Ok, I'll check out that program for rendering. It seems to be very popular here on sketchucation.P.S Just to clarify, this is my first SU model, but I do have some modeling experience with SolidWorks

No need to clarify, dude, it is a very good model indeed.
Cheers!
