LED lighting?
My vote goes to this. I've been trying to render LEDs many times, without luck. http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&p=157487

Thomas, I promise to make that the next challenge, do you have a great model to share?
Or should I make one? -
hm... "great" ... meh!
I made a model of an LED. Attached that one - you can have a look.
And I also attached the space invader scene.

had this one going for about and hour.. had to stop it as i need the resources for something a tad more important
ice
-
exported a jpg while setting that one up in SU.. thought it looked pretty good this way..
-
has anyone here rendered these in vray?
i have no idea how to achieve sss in it?
feel like a fool...again!pav

That's neat Jeff - the ice turned out really good - it even looks "frosty" where its thinner in the mouth

pav, Nomeradona did here: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=200104#p200104

Too late for another set of dragons???

Thanks for the help Miguel, I believe it is a bit of a touchy subject to discuss the differences between rendering systems.
I'm sure KT can do sss but I can't. (I will keep trying.)
Since I am new to the rendering world and I have read on this forum that different systems have different advantages/disadvantages, can users tell when a system is unsuited for a particular task?
Not trying to start a fight but sometimes I think I need several rendering systems to get a "particular" look for a "particular" image.
But I could also just suck at rendering...
thanks Miguel for the help!

Kerkythea. As previously mentioned, not the best solution for SSS.
-
I didn't say Kerkythea was not good for SSS. It's just that it's not easy to create an SSS material from scratch. Kerkythea has a lot of untapped power. -

Kerkythea has a lot of untapped power.Eh, I guess what I wrote does imply Kerky stinks- but that's not what I meant. You've pretty much summed it up, it's just a pain to get SSS to look good in Kerky; if I put some serious effort into it it'd probably look better. Despite the limitations Kerky has, it's still my favorite rendering engine.

You don't get much of an impression of SSS, but here's my attempt with indigo. Couldn't bake it very long though
Oh, and neon dragon. Just because I can
Plus an interesting effect straight out of SU:

Rendered using MyHand 1.5 using the Aguablender plug-in with Brazil caffeine enhancer and baking .

I can't believe I was about to do a Google search for "MyHand 1.5".
Some quick Kerkythea experiments. The 0.50 one cooked for longer.
