How to export a SKP model to Vue?
-
Hi, I have been trying to export a SKP model in to Vue complete 7, I'm using Sketchup pro 7.1, Vista 64, aevery time I export it, all model has the same material, and is kind of group inside Vue and can't be exploded, so I can't change the material, can any one help me?
Thanks

Export as a collada, Vue works great with collada.
Vue does not play nice with SU7, so maybe save as a SU6 and try in Vue.
Personally I like to use SU->.3ds

There some issue every time I try to export with collada, Vue crashes when I click on the export button, I tryed Group by texture, but I'm not sure how it works, any help, or suggestion will be great.
Thanks

Try .3ds, see this thread for image of export settings.

I just upgraded from Vue6 to Vue8 complete, hoping things would have improved with the SU import. Unfortunately it still looks like it hasnโt.
I canโt import SU7 files.
SU6 files come in nicely except for the scale. I get a scaling factor of 3,937 on everything. Why?
Collada comes in the right size, but the materials are all screwed up.
3ds looks pretty good, but I should be able to export in decimetres to get it in right scale to Vue. So, I need to manually rescale all imports in Vue? Also when I updated the scene in SketchUp, and resaved the 3ds, it does update, but it looses its size when updated in Vue.Iโm rather frustrated with e-on. They should not advertise they import SketchUp files!

They do import .skp, if you read the literature is says it works with SU6 and Vue 32 bit.

Yes it odes import SketchUp 6 files, only the scale is totally off, or maybe there is some setting I haven't undestood. So, it sort of partly works, but is usesless.
Can someone else import from SU at the correct scale? This is the company I wrote to a few years ago asking for them to make it possible to import objects with the right size, and they replied by asking why I am so obsessed with size .

Well, maybe they thought you are a sexist macho...Have you tried saving your model with other units? Say feet instead of metres (or vice versa). When importing something from dwg/dxf, we need to manually set the modelling units so that it comes in with the right scale. I don't know if Vue has this setting at import but you can always save your file in other units.

Yes, in the E-onsoftware fantasy world of Hobbits and goblins it is not about how big it is, but about how you use it. But we, who are trapped in the gloomy testosterone dripping real world of architecture, are sadly worried about things like the size.
Actually the SU import would be fine if the import scale factor is corrected. It appears to be independent of export/import units, as it should be. It will be easier to work with a SU file directly without having to use a third file format for transfer. -
I export my SU files as 3ds, and import into Vue with an enlargement factor of 10, and that seems to work well.
Unfortunately, some of the people who use Vue and create/sell content for it are lost on the concept of real world units (but, this is also true of some of the content in 3D Warehouse). When I first started using the software i broached this problem in the Vue forums and got some rather stupid and nasty comments. My favorite was along the lines "how can you have real world units when you are working on a computer screen that is only two dimensional."
