SketchUp Models and Animation (blender import problems)
-
I am attempting to import some models done in SketchUp into Blender software in order to build some basic animation.
The models are imported without particular problems (both in .dae and .3ds) but I then find problems in smoothing surfaces (or subsurf surfaces). In fact curved surfaces that were smooth in sketchUp appear not smooth in Blendr after the import. I have attempted many solutions, from converting the triangles of the mashes into quads etc but I can't find a solution.
Someone has nay advice/solution?
Many thanks -
What I kmnow of 3ds file export from SU is that it either preserves texture mapping OR welded vertices but you cannot do both.
Now as I don't use Blender, I don't know what the procedure there would be to soften vertices to get a smooth, curved surface but I guess that would be the solution eventually. I bet you would get better advice sooner in the Blender forums but of course, I really don't want to "send you away" - maybe someone has some experience with it here, too.
As for animation - why don't you try some SU plugins? Have a look at these videos - they were entirely made in SU, animated/rendered/exported as animation with SU Plugins.

Hello, LukyLuca!
By now you have probably figured it out, but there is this thread http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?p=1500042 where similar smoothing problem is discussed - unless it was you who posted it, you might have a look. -
Hi Numb,
Yes, it was me that posted that question on the Blender Forum! Thanks anyway!
