Deep exploration?
-
hey guys, i know i am now going to sound like a real fool.
i was talking to an old colleague today, and we were discussing various pieces of software we have been using.
he mentioned deep exploration, which i know that some people on here use quite regularly as i remember mentions of it.i was intrugued as to what this was (i didn't want to appear a fool in front of my friend so at the time i nodded, and feined understanding) so when i got home i googled it.
they have a website!
yay, you might think, but oh no. it appears whoever was in charge of describing what the damn thing does had obvioulsy swallowed a thesaurus that morning and i can't make head nor tail of it!

resourcesis it a renderer, is it an exporter, is it a tool for techincal drawings, is it layout software?
is it a bird? is it a plane? hopefully someone here knows!
if anyone can shed some light, i'd be ever so grateful, it could be the late night playing tricks on me,
or maybe i really am as dumb as i look (not possible)who knows eh?cheers my lovely sketchupy friends!

Solo is the main Deep Exploration user on Sketchucation.
As far as I can see, Deep Exploration is mainly used for converting 3D models, but it also has rendering (and other) capabilities built in.

cheers for the heads up john.
hopfully solo will spot this topic then!
there is a rumour going round he's omniscient...

Tough question Luci....
Deep exploration is a different app to different people in the CAD industry, it can do many things, if you take the time to learn all it can do then you will certainly get the value out of it.
It's firstly amongst the most expensive pieces of software I own, bought for a project two years ago that needed hundreds of model conversions from .Max/.skp/.lwo and .obj to .skp for a client that populated many, many pages on 3D warehouse today with bits and bends of products (I'm sure you know what I mean)
Thankfully the project paid for the app as I would never have bought it otherwise.
After that project I used it for converting to and from many formats, batch editing, UV unwrapping, mesh reducing, rendering and a few other odds and sods.
I really need to learn to unleash the other tools it has as I do not believe I use 50% of it's capabilities. -
Sounds incredable! Does it do a better job of converting file formats then say native importers and exporters SU has?

I wasn't aware that there's a native SU converter for i.e. .Max files...

It definately does a better job at converting than most native apps, especially when converting and keeping textures intact.

cheers for the help guys!
i defintely feel a lot more clued up on it now!
i guess i would be right in saying that there isn't really one use for it, it's one of those all in one programs.
would you agree solo?uv unwrapping and exporting in different formats is defintely very cool, maybe i'll research little bits of this softwware at a time!
i did e-mail right hemisphere (the people who wrote deep exploration) asking what it's primay function is, when they get back to me i shall let you all know what they say!
