How do you keep up with industry news?
-
I thought it would be fun to see how you guys keep up to date on topics that interest you pertaining to the work you do...Sketchup, architecture, rendering, etc. I am also interested in seeing if those ways would interest me or the other members - sort of a "Peer Recommendation." Anything goes: websites, magazines, blogs, whatever...
Here are my favorites:
- I have a Google Alert set up for "Sketchup" so when somebody posts something about Sketchup, I will be alerted. (Pretty cool in theory, but it only works half-a** though)
- Our very own Daily Catchup...but its been pretty quiet lately
I realize a complete list would probably take half a page so maybe just list your favorites

I know and I am really sorry about it but I simply don't have the time to keep up with all the news. When I did, it took about 4-6 hours a day to check everything and write the articles. As I am left alone with poor Daily CatchUp, I cannot undertake it. I have a subscription list (Google Reader) for relevant RSS feeds related to SU if anyone interested.
Also AL Hart keeps a list of SU related blogs somewhere on his RenderPlus site (sorry, I won't look it up now).

Ah shoot, no pressure Gai...you really did do a good job with it - thanks for that

Thanks for the link, James. BTW, that SketchupArtists is a great website!
One more website for 3D industry news: http://www.cgarchitect.com/news/default.asp

I just took a look at the CG architect site and read about "camera match", which sets the camera to match the perspective in a photo.
Do we have a similar feature in SketchUp?
Is this the same as Photo Match?
See: Camera Match

I do not think so Al. Well not without a lot of work. Would be nice to have it working with SU though! This application would be very useful for presentations to Planning Officers as they can often be swayed when an accurate 'This is REALLY how it will look!' view can be put under their noses.

Al,
I've watched the Tut videos on Camera Match http://www.cgarchitect.com/news/newsfeed.asp?nid=4657 and it appears to me that Photo Match could be leveraged to do much the same if it had Camera Match's 'Masking with Polygons' feature plus the forced dimesioning feature. The attached are two screen shots of the 'Masking with Polygons' video tut showing the masked section being moved onto place, quite a neat feature
Any Ruby Wizards interested in looking into a plugin?
Mike
PS: It might be an idea to split Camera Match if there is interest in discussing its features with a view to having similar ones in Photo Match?
