Render warning!
-
Are you on a notebook? Desktops don't usually come with those settings on by default.
-
no, i'm on a desktop. i had turned them on thinking it would be better for my computer.
-
A similar thing happened to me once.
Re-encoding a bunch of movies the night before a trip. Needless to say, I was movieless on a 22hr flight. -
If you fly LAN they have some boring ones in the personal media player installed in each seat.
-
Disabling OS automatic updates is also a very good idea on render machines. Last thing you want is a "Automatic Updates Installed Succesfully. Restart Now?" message and a frozen render awaiting you in the morning.
-
And automatic virus check...
-
...and screen savers.
-
I remember some similar "duh" thread over the Kerky forums (it started with something like Jackson mentions - but there the system automatically restarted - obviously exiting from Kerky before).
So better to have just "notified about system updates" (rather than automatic updates) - maybe even best to disconnect from the Internet when just pure rendering overnight - and of course, disable any sleep and hybernation settings.
-
... and if you've got kids and work from home for God's sake lock the office door!
-
Ah yes, of course. A friend of mine has a 14 month old baby who know one thing of computers; where to switch them off.
And she can even stand up and walk already.
