Mouse problems

I've just loaded sketchup and found that it won't orbit via the scroll button!! and it won't pan via shift/scroll button
yet the scroll button works fine on zoom and on all other programs.
has anyone else experienced this?? and is there a cure?

What mouse are you using? have you tried fiddling in the control panel?
