Hi, I have started a pretty huge project - Rebuilding ancient Rome. Now, i dont mean a 100% accurate copy, that would be crazy, but a model showing all the points of interest, and famous building. To show what i mean, i have uploaded a few screens of my work so far:

      http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o88/stoferr/rome1.jpg

      http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o88/stoferr/Rome2.jpg

Please note that all white boxes and objects are unfinished houses, etc, they will not be a part of the final product.

Now rebuilding a city is a huge undertaking, to if you want to help, i would be extremely happy. Just make some simple models of famous buildings, points of interest, living houses, etc etc. Anything i can use for the city. Then i would be extremely gratefull 😄

      Thanks for reading.

😲 It's very much work! And later you need some more textures (especially, never use this standard roof texture, it was not made from a photo).
        Have you seen http://www.romereborn.virginia.edu?

Yup, i have seen it, and it is bloody amaizing! However, such a detailed model, would NEVER run on even my I7, Quad SLI GTX 295 computer, even if it would one day be released. (And even in that i doubt) So that is why im creating a lite version, not as accurate or as detailed, but just for fun, for people who might want to see how ancient rome might have looked like. And yes, even that is a huge undertaking, that is why im asking for help. Textures, models, maps, information, anything will be huge help. Btw, do you know a good roof texture, that is roman-like? I agree that the original isn't too good.

Hi stoferr! That is a huge project you're undertaking, it reminded me of something similar I saw on the warehouse a while ago.

Your model looks like its going to have much more detail, but a user uploaded a very basic Rome, split into 6 parts.

Here is the link to part1

I hope it's useful for you, always nice to have a reference.

Hi Stoffer, huge project ! but ancient Rome is still fascinating. You could get advantage using Fredo's plugin :http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=21469#p180536
              to minimize shapes you're placing.

                See this user: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?uq=13768710844291476073&scoring=m 😲

He has almost half of the roman forum in 3D, including Palatine Hill.

                Forgive my spanglish...

See if this roofing texture will be better (I could still imagine something much better but it's still better than that "Spanish tile" you use)

And a preview of it on a basilica we've just found ("strongly" WIP)

The stone/brick opus mixtum is not mine but I will ask my friend who made it to share.
