I import and autocad (dwg) file in sketchup pro 7 and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? I have tried saving autocad file back to earlier versions and still when I go to import everything looks like its installing but nothing shows up.

    Thanks

Try clicking on 'zoom extents' after loading it, you may find your model has been loaded far away from the origin or that it has been loaded at a very small scale - I've had both with autocad files

And read what is in the report that SU shows you after importing. DWG files can carry many different object types that SU cannot import. Especially building components (walls etc) created with AutoCad Architecture (formerly Architectural Desktop) cannot be directly imported into SU. For files with these objects, you will have to use the "Export to AutoCad" command in ACA/ADT to create a file with standard CAD geometry.

Has anyone written an AutoCAD extension that will assist in preparing the model for export specifically for SketchUp? Could it be done?

          Hi

What I do when importing cad to SU is do a save as and change all the linetypes to layer 0, make sure my model is on the 0,0 origin and then purge. Then do a LAYDEL command and delete any remaining layers. Make sure your drawing units are set up correctly otherwise it will come into SU not how you want it.

In SU do a purge and group the floor plan. I never draw using the geometry from ACAD, it has always resulted in larger file sizes and corrupt drawings.

            Hope this helps.
