Hello, I would like to ask is it possible to use my Onix tree plugin (for max) in SU? And is there a way or a plug in I can use to generate/create 3d trees? thanks, πŸ˜„

        Oh, it's totally possible.......BUT!!!

There is no SU-Onyx plug-in to generate a tree within this app, nor a native importer. You can use Onyx 4 Max and export a .3ds, or even Onyx alone and do it via .obj, but be prepared massive mesh sizes that will cripple SU with just one medium sized tree.

Unfortunately cool stuff like Onyx trees is way beyond SU, I'd look at billboards of Onyx trees for SU, as the real thing is just too much. πŸ˜’

Ok, so there is no tree generator plugin for SU, I have tried to export a 3ds file of Onix to Su but just as you said the faces are to much. But sorry I don't understand what you meant by "billboard"? Could explain it a bit more? thank you Solo. πŸ‘

Al Hart made one that does images of trees to make 2d face me trees.

By Billboarding I mean taking the high poly tree into an app that can handle and render it well, then extracting .png's from the render to use as 2d trees. Or, like in Vue, when you import an Onyx tree you can set it that trees past a certain distance (you decide) will be billboards as the extreme detail is not needed at those distances, what it does then is it randomises the tree in size and rotation so they blend and look perfectly 3d.

Here is an example (made with RP Tree Maker suggested by Chris above). Load it directly into your SU application (if you browse the warehouse from SketchUp) otherwise if you download it as a file and import it like that, you have to explode the outer shell first.

I hope it's not a too complicated description - if you have problems with it, I can rephrase.
