I'm a new user to 3D graphics and sketchup and have just completed my first model in sketchup 7(which I am pretty proud of). Here's my problem...I want to export my model to a Google Earth Site but can't seem to do it. I can load my model in sketchup and bring up the location in Google Earth. I can usually even bring the Google Earth site into sketchup but once it's loaded my sketchup completely locks up and I can't move around the model or anything to set it correctly into Google Earth. It usually shuts me down.

I'm working on a Dell Computer, running Windows XP, with 2.96 GB Ram and running 2.79 Ghz. Do I not have the requirements I need to run this?

Please help me out if you can, I love this program and really want to be able to use the Google Earth component. Any suggestions and help are greatly appreciated.

I also have another question (sorry, newbies are annoying I know! πŸ˜• ) I have exported my first model to the 3D warehouse (it's called tellico plains cabin) but how do I export it anywhere else. For example, if I make an animated 3D model and want to play it on another computer, where and how do I export it to be able to do that? I eventually want to be able to make models and show them in court (I'm a paralegal) as exhibits for our cases so I need to know how to do that.

Thanks again for any and all help received.

I thought it might have something to do with the size of my model. I imported some 3D warehouse stuff along with it and believe that really enlarged the size.

Is there anyway to compress the size of my model without losing features?

        Thanks for the response!

It's already in the 3D warehouse under "tellico plains cabin".

I would post it here but am not sure how to do that...that was one of my questions earlier...how do I export to places other than 3D warehouse?

ok thanks! I appreciate your time. I will check out the articles and try a smaller model.

I designed that model off of a photograph I had taken on my last vacation, so I was matching the photograph. I'm still happy with the model for a "first try". It took me forever to figure out the roof...lol.

wow! thanks! I'm not sure if I know what all of that means (lol) but I will definitely watch the tutorial. I will try to work on this over the weekend. You've been a great help! Thanks for your patience.

                Hi Mary,

File size of a model using images (photos you've taken) can go up to the skies if you don't optimize your images. It is a simple process you do in a 3rd party application (image editor) when you crop everything off that you don't need in the image, resize it to something "reasonable" (definitely somewhere below 1024 pixels which is generally the "limit" of OpenGL display SU uses anyway) and even save it compressed.

As for your lockup after importing the GE snapshot - it can even be related to your video card/driver which you haven't said anything yet. If it persists, try to go to Window (menu) in SU > Preferences > OpenGL and unable hardware acceleration. If it "seems" to fix your problem, there's definitely something going on with your graphics system (maybe you don't even have a dedicated card just an integrated chipset).

                Gai...
