[Plugin] Extended Views v1.2 UPDATE May 23, 2013
-
Thats much cleaner code for determining the axes and setting the cameras Alex. I don't if you'll get as many people seeing it burried here deep inside this thread. You should make its own [Plugin] thread for it so people can find it easier! Or maybe wait until you add icons I guess if you'd like? Either way, it might just get lost here.
Great plugin though

Chris, another great plug-in....!
I have often wondered for sometime if another view somewhere between Wireframe and Shaded could be developed..... Quite often i have wanted to export a view to Layout in black and white with only edges showing. the problem is I'd like it to appear as a line drawing only, no faces that covers other linework on the page.... something like wireframe but without the internal linework!!!
What do you think?
-
Great Plug in Chris!!!
which made me think of an idea i had a while back about another standard view somewhere between wireframe and shaded view.
From time to time i want to export a view to Layout in Black and white with only edges showing... the problem is with shaded view the faces interfere with linework. I also know that we can re-arrange line work visually by hierarchy but still the problem applies...
What I'd like to see is a wireframe mode without the internal linework. Say a wireframe, profiles only mode... it would work especially well with plans as ground surfaces would not display which helps with dimensioning, notation, etc in SU ...What do you think?
-
Chris, I will make icons and will correct my version of plugin in the near time.
-
Chris, had a play with this - fantastic -Thank You
-
hi Chris!
Great addition, thank you!
Just one thing, it would be cool to add an icon which toggle perspective? -
in fact i already have them integrated into my new standard toolbar (in place of)
Chris, if it's ok with you i'll post it for all to enjoy

Sorry Pilou and any other SU6/5 devotees!
No problem, I have free 6 & 7
But I don't see the video? Where is it? -
Sorry, no video yet. And probably not anything much new from me for the next few days. I'm graduating tomorrow and my parents are in town - hooray!. So I am sort of out of commission.
CadFatther, that would be fine to include it in your toolbar. I am planning on updating it though in a week or two. So you might have to update your version after that.

Try this on one of your models and tell me how close it is to what you are thinking of.
Load the style I attached here. Then go to your shadow settings and turn the light and dark sliders both to 100% and turn on "Use Sun for Shading". You might also put the sun at noon-ish just to make sure it is bright.
Does that begin to get at what your thinking of?
Chris
-
Thanks Chris, not realy what i was thinking about....
This is what your style gives me.
What I was thinking was a style that only showed visible edges but with no faces. Like I said, a wireframe type of style where there were not faces visible but also only visible edges...
The real benefit of such a style is in Layout where imported images overlapping would appeap more blended or seemless... -
That is odd, there are quite a few things about that picture that aren't quite representative of how the style was working on my machine - but I was using very simple models. Any chance I could test it out on that model and see if I can get it to do what I had in mind?

Sure, Chris. PM me your email address and I'll send it to you....

Hi Chris
im having a problem with this script, if i try to undo a set of actions where i had used ur extended views in it, i get a very annoying little box with construction points being "unbuilt" as i go through the undos, its like your script uses it to align the axis and u havnt got the script group (or whatevr you ruby guys call it) where it can undo with a single undo, then i tried to just open a blank page, draw a quick block then hit T (for top view), then try to undo the block, then u see the construction points and way to make ur script undoable with one undo, or have it not feature in the undo list at all -

Hi Chris
im having a problem with this script...use my version
http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=19323
...it does not have this failing.
And my version is more complete. -
Heh, yeah sorry. I apparently forgot to make it not have an undo show up. I'll fix that.
But you might be best off just to use Alex's script. It is more complete. I wrote mine before he had published his. didn't know he also had a similar script in progress.

Hi Chris:
Not sure if the following is as designed or something related to changes in 7.1.
If, for example, I click on the Top View icon, the the camera is oriented properly; however, it zooms to the model extents rather than the current display as is the case with SU's native View Toolbar.
My work around is to preselect geometry in the display, use Extended Standard Views, then zoom to the selection extents.

I like that you found a way to use the User Defined Axis. Do you think other scripts could utilize your code, such as Todd's Nudge script?
