Airplane Study

Heh, I was thing that the model had the semlance of T-6, F6F or F8F aircraft. Pretty neat, very nice work with the modeling! Actually, it looks like there's a little Gee Bee racer mixed in there too...

is this SU output? (as in, no external renderer)
the model is looking sweet.
props!Should I groan now?

Working on the engine.
-
LOL, you are getting OCD.
Lovin it!!
-
This model looks beautiful! Great work.
-
Thanks.
I don't think I will make any propellers. The author of the source image wrote the following:

i didnt want to do a propeller the engine should look like a mix between an old spark-ignition engine (i googled that translation ) and a modern jet-turbine-like-thing.
However I am adding missiles...? We'll see. I may just make some landing gear as well. Now on to the rivets

Astonished model
-
Fantastic modelling skills Eric!
-
wow wow wow...this is so freakin awesome , eric! a ton of detail here... the cartoon style is really great... love it.
-
wow, can wait to see it with textures and then render! amazing stuff, coangrats!!!
-
As you should.
Thanks again all for the comments.

I added the rivets tonight. They were easier than I anticipated. What I found really interesting was viewing the rivets while hiding the rest of the model. I have added some shots for you to see. Pretty cool actually. My wife said it looked like The Invisible Man's airplane
-
thats coming along very nicely, ilove the shots with the plane hidden just with the rivits LOL!...
-
Nice, looks like some parts came from the Space Shuttle.
-
Dear Eric,
Perhaps you could take some of the trickier modelled parts and create a few 'how-to-do' tutorials. Perhaps some of the engine components?
Kind regards,
Bob -
Eric, you freak!!
business slow? as the detail is getting insane...but amazing.
If I may Inquire, whats the poly count and file size at this point? This is going to look friggin amazing, this needs a great render and even an Animation (offering to do an animation if you willing to loan the final model out for a test flight)
-
I just may do that. I am at work now so I don't have the model, it is at home. Will check the poly and file size later.
I only hope I can do the model justice with a nice rendering and not make it look cheesy. Still learning.
And yes business is slow but I have done all this at home on my time, not at the office. I reserve office play time for stupid visual puns

Eric
that is looking amazingmike d
-
damn....this is looking pretty crazy..any tricks for adding the rivets? or just hard work with copy and copy/rotate?
-
Copy and rotate. I did make a component for half the airplane so I only had to do one side since it is symmetrical. The fuselage and tail section took the most time. The wings and engine were easy. I also made the rivets a bit long so I did not have to make sure the face matched perfectly in each spot.

Ok Pete, the count so far is 229,799 faces at 6.13mb.
