      Hi
      I need to create an autorun cd for distribution. I want to be able to create a simple but nice looking menu page with buttons that open jpegs and pdfs. I've found only one freeware app that does this called 1st Autorun Express. It works but the menu page does not look good and can't be edited much. I thought about the possibilities of using Publo but my trial has expired.

      If you know of a freeware app that does this well let me know, I need to do this today! Thanks in advance.

          Thanks Tig. I'm thinking there aren't many options as 50 people have looked at this post and you are the only one who has replied.

            May be other people do not use a one-click solution (free).

            On windows I edit a file autorun.inf and use whatever development system I like.
            (delphi,powerbasic,neobook etc.)

            autorun.inf

            [autorun]
            open=MyLauncher.exe
            icon=MyLauncher.exe,0

            Then the launcher and the autorun.inf get burned on the CD together with all the other stuff.
            With enabled autorun the MyLauncher gets started when you insert the CD.

              Hi HPW
              Thanks, yes I've realised how I can get a cd to autorun, but its a menu screen that I want to create. I have very little knowledge of html so I'm looking for some sort of wizard that creates the file links automatically but gives me some control over the graphics. I still haven't found a good solution, so if anybody knows of something please let me know.

                just create the html in word or open office and add hyperlinks as menus. Pretty Easy I reckon?

                    I made an autorun CD for my original collection of figures, John, but I can't remember what software I used. I have a feeling I didn't use any. Basically, you just need an autorun.inf file; and you can make that in Notepad. Take a look at any existing one; the syntax is really basic and just points to the file you want to run. In my case it was a GUI for the CD that was a simple HTML file with some graphics and hyperlinks that was opened by a small file called browsercall.exe.
                    The HTML page was called start.html, so the autorun.inf file simply contained the line:- open=browsercall.exe ~~start.html.

                    You can get more details (and browsercall) from here.

                      Hi Alan,

                      I'll take a look at that. I've made some progress with it now using a 30 day trial of the snappily titled "Autorun Pro Enterpise2". It lets you construct a menu like a web page with hyperlinks and open documents, scroll through photo galleries etc. It works well and allows a lot of graphical control. But now I've realised that what this app does is quite simple I've also started an alternative on similar lines to what you suggest. Thanks for the links. Other than CAD stuff, I only have the most rudimentary skills about anything else that can be done on a computer so I think I percieved this all to be quite complicated but as you and others have pointed out it is fairly simple.

                      Thanks again.
