Scifi Sketchup Modeling
-
I know nobody asked me but I'll chime in anyway I like Corel Painter for painting, drawing, and inking... It's used very heavily in concept art for those things and I've used it for comics as well.
Best,

Best,
Jason.yeah I have never used it although I think I have a copy lying around somewhere on my hard drive or on a disk im pretty sure I got it bundled with my tablet when I bought it I must look for it!
How do you rate it compared to photoshop for using it for concept art painting over 3D models? -
The most glaring things different with the current version (11) of Painter vs. Photoshop is the lack of 16-bit and 32-bit support.
For drawing and painting I think it is superior in almost every aspect -- for painterly painting styles it is far superior, but for gradient based "coloring" styles it can be too big of an adjustment for somebody comfortable in Photoshop... mostly because you cannot create gradients with transparency (although you do have the standard layer blending modes).
I have a video series geared towards comics creation that uses it extensively for penciling, inking, and coloring: http://www.vtc.com/products/Creating-Modern-Comics-Tutorials.htm
Here's a page I show from start to finish in the videos (Sketchup is used for the background, everything else in Corel Painter)
Best,

Still alive, just busy!
Ran the model through the computer at work on my dinner yesterday and started on a new paint job. Exterior modeling mostly complete just need to tidy up the interior now. Have been using Artisan a lot to tidy it up and smooth the body.
The tree cutters on the rotor hubs are Artisan all the way using a proxy, they turned out really well but sure is horrible getting them right.

wow.....seeing those images....i couldnt imagine how it was done in SU

When I get more time, and a computer I will try to get some how-to pdf's done but incredibly busy in my new job dont have time for anything right now.

Some amazing work Liam. I love that you use SketchUp to build the sets for your comic book. I was hoping to try that myself as my skills develop.

Well new MAC arrived from China yesterday and got delivered to me in work. Havent installed all my software yet and my Thea installation CD's are at home so for now I used kerk.
rendering at 1200*1000 with AA on full, just a clay render but it took 80 seconds using 8 threads where as my old macbook pro would have been chugging along for about 20-30 mins!Anyway here is the space elevator redux for an upcoming PC game mod. Mainly recycling parts for the base and will populate the city by hand but not for a while until work gets a bit less busy.
-
Havent had time to do anything with work so busy these past months! Luckily living in hostels and friends floors is over as I just got a house in London at last!!
Anyway taking some hints from Iron Man enthusiasts I have replaced the rotors on my hellicarrier with some more scifi looking tony stark thrusters.
C&C welcome

I balieve that a good aproach would be to also add in some light beacons along the sides, some on the thrusters and a few on the two runways.

Dont worry they are already made although you cant see them as I have done no renders yet this is just raw sketchup output.

Little comparison

Awesome looking models Liam, these should be operational in RC scale?

It is possible If you configured the engines and balanced them correctly although would have to be equal power to all six, not sure how you would work it I suppose your the best person from all your RC boats although I am making a spitfire currently:
