Leg for chair

Yep, that works great as well. I just wonder about how much control you have if it needs to be precise.
I guess I am just a traditionalist -
If you place the line and curve properly, I think this would be an accurate method. It's certainly fast.
-
yes, i think any method is as accurate as you care to make it. (unless you can create a random curve )

Many thanks to all of you, especially Eric with his great and clear tutorial.
I do think that shape bender is the quickest solution but it seems that I have some problem with such plugin because cannot get any final result, maybe there's a bug ?
So, I'll go back to work now and try to finalize such leg ! -
There definitly bugs in the script, but they shouldn't keep it from working. I can you figure out whats wrong with it if you want,
Chris

Further to another thread, perhaps someone (David?) could make a tutorial showing how shape bender may be used to make the complex shape of the chair leg.

Dear David,
Exactly! As I said in another thread (http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=18210&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=120#p151205), Shape Bender is almost a loft tool, and so the more examples we have of its use the better.
Kind regards,
BobNow, I had better go look at that video tutorial, hadn't I.

Hi Chris,
Thanks again for your help, for the time being it seems to work quite without any problem except maybe it's not that fast but I really need to "clean" my labtop first.
-
ok, good. Glad its working. I'll be the first to admit its no perfect, but I'm glad some of you folks are finding ways to put it to use. I've got some ideas how to speed up certain things it does, but I won't be getting to that for a a month or two I'm sure.
Thats a great tutorial Dave. I noticed that the preview geometry didn't show up like it was supposed to - soory! Sometimes it does that when the group to bend is lined up exactly on the line. But its only sometimes it freaks out and I have not been able to figure out why or when so I can't fix it. Oh well! I'll get it later. You explained it nicely that you mostly just need the start and end to correspond and hit enter and it still bends, just without a preview first. Looks great,
Chris

Chris, thank you.
Yes, I noticed that too. The funny thing is that it doid the first several times I went though that. I had to make a number of restarts when recording the video because I'd suddenly start speaking in tongues or the phone would ring or I'd fall of my chair. (None of those things really happened but I did have to restart several times.) I would use Undo to get back to the beginning. After three or four times through, the preview didn't appear. I just went with it though.
It is an excellent plugin, Chris.

Hi,
I happened to spot this thread and thought that was a pretty cool leg design......so I had to have a go at it.I've been spending some time working with Shape Bender and FreeScale this weekend. I just downloaded them both and I'm having a blast seeing what's possible.
I used a combination of follow me and the FreeScale taper tool to model this leg.The taper went smoothly..........I spent more time just getting the pocket for the table apron.Rich
