      hey there guys!!
I have a veeeeeery bad newbie question ๐Ÿ˜„
how to make two objects in sketchup interact with each other? For instance, you have two cubes and they cannot intersect if the two geometries "touch" eachother, either by you moving them or in animation???? is there any way!!
      thanx a bunch!

        Hi Ch0ban, hi folks.

If by "interaction" you mean that the cubes will intersect, it is possible to do that if the two cubes are in the same context (both in the same group or component or both in no group or component). When this condition is satisfied, try this:

        1 - Select both cubes;

2 - Right click on the selection to bring up a contextual menu.

3 - Choose "Intersect selected" in the contextual menu.

4 - If required, delete unwanted geometry.

Otherwise, if you want one cube to penetrate the other without affecting it, group at least one cube so its geometry will be separated from the other. Grouping both cubes separately will insure a better protection from any other geometry. Then, the cubes can be moved and rotated at will without damaging each other and without damaging any other geometry.

        Just ideas.

no no... i meant to avoid intersecting AT ALL... for example, if I had a ball, sphere...and a 3D box... is there any way sketchup can PREVENT the ball EVER intersecting into the box? I mean, whatever I do, the ball just avoids "entering" the box 3D object??? i have to make some simulations in my firm and sketchup would be ideal but dont know how:(

Then there are at least three different things to clarify.

            • intersection would mean (like Jean understood) when two objects interact with each other in a way that finally they form a new object (made up of the two).
            • then objects can touch each other and even "merge" into each other's faces but without "sticking" to each other. Two separate groups or components would do this.
            • finally there is "collision" (which, I think you are after) when objects act like real, physical objects and they bounce off each other when meeting and such but never "merge" into each other.
So which one? If this latter one, you are after SketchyPhysics IMO.

definatelly collision hehe ๐Ÿ˜„ sorry for the zero in terminology ๐Ÿ˜„
              on to it already
              thanx a lot!!!

No problem. We are all detectives here. ๐Ÿ˜„
SP is not the "easiest" plugin to use but I'm sure you can do whatever you want with it once you get the hang of it. AFAIK it can already do magnetism. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
