my model is fine until i add a material to the surface with openings. when there are four openings, the material renders fine. when i add openings in between the others, the rendering gets messed up. it flashes and gets pixelated. there also seems to be an issue with transparency in the geometry overlaps. i think its similar to the problem stated in this post: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=18270

    is this "z fighting?"

heres a screen recording of the model, before and after adding a material to the surface: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkNRIZYTZVQ

i'm using windows xp and sketchup 7.0.10247

    thanks

This is very weird. In your video it's really ugly and looks even worse than a "simple" z-fighting (like the combination of y-fighting and clipping) 😲

Yet when I download it, I cannot see the issue. Do you have "use maximum texture size" checked at Window > Preferences > OpenGL settings? Or in any case, could you try turning off certain features there?

Hmm. Youtube vide shows that You have not correct model and that's all. The problem may bet that openings on that wall are not correctly on the face. When You have cuch mess on model then You can try zoom in in some corners and look for errors or just delete that wall and draw it acurately one more time.

That was my first suspicion, too, but then I downloaded the model, turned edge display to axis and everything looked fine. I even changed units to millimetres and .0000 precision (that's pretty small) but could not find any mistakes in those (at least for the top middle window).

Gaieus I think Fishgate has changed model and that's not the same You can see in Youtube.

I turned on the "use maximum texture size" and still no change..I have re-drawn that wall 8 times thinking it was out of plane somehow, still no difference. The model I uploaded is the same as the youtube video, and in fact its still doing this. But when I erase the middle windows it goes away. If this problem is not on the file you downloaded from here, perhaps its some display situation?

              thx

That's exactly what I thought. To me, it is not showing those symptoms.

As I thought and fumed about this, my son suggested it might be a video card problem, so I copied the file to another computer, and problem gone! So thats' it....I guess it also means I need a new laptop. Thanks for your input
