This looks like fun, can I play also?

Modelhead,
behold several examples of true religion:“Not everyone who calls me their Lord will get into the kingdom of heaven. Only the ones who obey my Father in heaven will get in.” (Matthew 7:21)
“Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” (James 1:27)
“For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from good works is dead.” (James 2:26)
“… to walk worthily of the Lord unto all pleasing, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;” (Colossians 1:10)

hmmph!, there you go again quoting from your book of parables, also it's amazing how the fundamentally religious types are drawn like moths to a flame whenever impending doom is a subject, strange bunch y'all are.

here we go...we have a new player...
remember the rules There are no rules
or there are.. -

I recommend Fingerprints of the Gods by Graham Hancock - that talks about 'lost' civilisations and echos from the Mayan history and before them.
Perhaps we will be a lost civilisation? This will be the new dark age if no one records what people ramble on about on internet forums.
-
Yes, TWP Designs, "we will be a lost civilisation"!
Voila an old example, w/ God’s fingerprint:
“He (Jesus) replied: “If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!” But as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, he began to weep. “How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace. But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes. Before long your enemies (roman army, during Titus – 70 a.d.) will build ramparts against your walls and encircle you and close in on you from every side. They will crush you into the ground, and your children with you. Your enemies will not leave a single stone in place, because you did not accept your opportunity for salvation.” (Luke 19:40-44)
Actual civilisation, again, "did not accept opportunities for salvation"… (it didn’t recognize the time of its visitation...)

I think if anything happens in the nearest few years, I hope it will teach us to work together, support each other and recognise simple impulses coming from our 'hearts'.
Modelhead, you are looking for an example of a good fruit of a religion. I think the humble and full of compassion person of Theresa of Calcutta could bring you an idea of true fruits of Christianity.
I hope that 2012 film is just an occasion for several people earn a lot of money and we will experience the shift in our way of thinking of the World as a whole, rather then the shift of the earth axis.

Oh ... from the Good Book, a classic in its own right:
"If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." -Leviticus 20:13
While freedom of religion, and respect towards religious people, are desirable, religion potentially is an extremely destructive force - we should be wary of it.
Wait ... is that the doorbell? Who could it be? Hey - it's the Witnesses! Great! runs off wielding aluminum rod - better safe than sorry!

from the link you provide Stinkie,
I quote something :
.."The point is not the honest relief of suffering but the promulgation of a cult based on death and suffering and subjection."
...Mother Teresa is thoroughly saturated with a primitive fundamentalist religious worldview that sees pain, hardship, and suffering as ennobling experiences and a beautiful expression of affiliation with Jesus Christ and his ordeal on the cross. Hitchens reports that in a filmed interview Mother Teresa herself tells of a patient suffering unbearable pain from terminal cancer: "With a smile, Mother Teresa told the camera what she told the patient: 'You are suffering like Christ on the cross. So Jesus must be kissing you.'" Apparently unaware that the response of the sufferer was a put-down, she freely related it: "Then please tell him to stop kissing me."..he maybe right,
who knows ?But which is the service, the action to try to save people from starving or from deseases that this man is taking ? Anyone knows ?
In my view mother Teresa did what her heart told her to do. And she was lead by compassion.
Where is compassion ? Where is it in the the rational world ?
Compassion is the clue for us to live together.
Otherwise we will all go to the hell of killing. -
Mother Teresa was a naïve nun, used by others as a mask, as a ‘color’ for their ‘image’…
Stinkie,
All civilisations which confounded Liberties (Freedom) w/ Libertinage (neglecting rules such as Leviticus 20:13), were liquidated in an abrupt manner...Juan wrote:
%(#0000FF)[“Compassion is the clue for us to live together.

Behold the real COMPASSION:“When Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things.” (Mark 6:34)
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son (Jesus), that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Cornel,
Leviticus 20:13 is an abomination - a savage moral imperative, concocted by savages, and adhered to by savages.
Oh ... I take it that, considering you're using the word libertinage, you feel that gay men and women are without morals?

This is the weirdest movie critique I've ever read.
-
Here's what I've never understood:
If salvation is just a simple "I accept Jesus Christ into my heart as my Lord and Savior" step away, why waste any of the finite here worrying about the infinite hereafter? Why not focus on the gift of each fleeting moment? On the meaning and good use of said gift we've been given...and for what reason?
Shoot, why not put off that step a bit longer still and check out pergatory...might be cleansing? Even take a 5day/4night excursion through hell...just to see? If it gets too hot: say the magic words and zap! you're saved!
I just don't get it...?

Hehe so real that saying ..for how many heads, same many ideas..
The word christian appeared in 1 st century. The old testament s Hebrews were not christians. They were listening to God because God chose them to be His nation;and He wanted them to be a unique, pure, perfect nation. They were blessed in many rows and many ways and many times but as the reward was big God asked for them to be holy.
Now after Christ came on earth, the old law is now transformed in the law of The Great Gift...remember this is what we are asked for..this is what to be christian means Matthew 5:38 "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' 39 But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also; 40 and if any one would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well; 41 and if any one forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to him who begs from you, and do not refuse him who would borrow from you. 43 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you salute only your brethren, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
The old testament was attached to the new testament for us to have the knowledge regarding Jesus Christ death and resurrecting --For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Without old testament we wouldn t know who is God,what we are,who is Jesus, etc.
The moral laws are based on this book BIBLE. Where we have been if this wasn t written??
I even don t want to think about it!!
Have a nice day!Elisei
PS again sorry for bad phrases

Stinkie,
As per your comment re. Leviticus 20:13, God is a primitive person…!!!“Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!” (Romans 11:33)
Tom,
Re. your: "Why not focus on the gift of each fleeting moment?":“…in Him you have been made complete (), and He is the head over all rule and authority;” (Colossians 2:10)
()= full true value (spiritual and material)Cornel

I think everyone has been hammered into silence once again by relentless Bible quotations. That’s not exactly the best way to win hearts and minds.
Christ didn’t communicate entirely by quoting the Torah. He spoke to people in his own words, using parables and metaphors…that’s why people listened to him. -
Guys. . .. ITS A MOVIE!!!!!

Cornel, "How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways" always struck me as a bit of a silly arguement. To paraphrase: "you cant understand because god's too cool."

The "good books" (there are a few) have fooled almost an entire planet for going on 3000 years now.
Religion is a good business, and always has been, from the early Roman catholic days until these 'non donominational' 'happy clappy' days. They all prey on the weak, the poor the young and the old.
I cannot believe in an age we are living in now that there are so many blinded folk to the facts, and yes FACTS, as religion just does not have any.
