I really need your help about xp, vista, and hardware?

The continuing saga of the new machine continues:
Have it in a new shop. We've switched out the video card, the ram, the processor: still having glitchy slow downs and other errors. So next step was to be the motherboard. But, there was talk starting of SketchUp not being able to handle the newer hardware, so loaded it on two of their machines: a $600 model with onboard video, and a $6000 model with a 1gig geforce and 8core processor...both with vista. Both worked as expected so not SketchUp.
So now there is talk of XP not being able to handle my new hardware (nvidea quadro 1700, dualcore intel 3gig, 4gigs ram)...?
Can you debunk this idea for me? I'm thinking more that XP was never configured correctly (drivers and such), plus I really don't want vista. But if this does make sense to you guys, I should hear it before I push my opinion too hard.

If there's drivers for your hardware it should work fine.

There are no single reason XP can't handle your hardware - it handles it better than Vista, for sure. I'm running XP Pro 64 bits with 24 GBs, no problems - runs Sketchup smoothly, as well as other cad applications.
Regards.

Zilonx on your 24gb machine what size sketchup files are you running and how many faces typically do you have in your models? We have a problem where one file being 85mb runs smoothly but a file being only 15mb runs very poorly or not at all on the same machine...any ideas why that would be?
The 85mb file has 3,843,550 faces
The 15mb file has 2,148,937 faces -
What are the textures used in the smaller one?
