Chris,
As has already been stated by others here, there is really no reason to bother with the commercial version of SketchUp. It is a contentious issue amongst those that have already bought SketchUp (and pay to upgrade it) that there is nothing like the degree of separation between the Full and Lite versions of SU that one generally expects with other software. The Free version has all the functionality of the commercial version with the exception of a few technical features that you almost certainly wouldn't need....not unless you intend taking the SketchUp model into a CAD program and actually producing full-blown architect's drawings from it. Even then, there are work-arounds for that.If you are serious about it, you could do nothing better than download the free version and play around with it. Follow the links on the Help menu; watch the YouTube tutorials, check out the scripts in the Ruby section of this site...and ask questions. You'll find most people more than eager to help.

You got it!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xL6svX577BwSee the blonde haired kid typing one handed - and rolling around by pushing one handed on a straight back wheelchair? Thats me. That blog never made a dime so i killed it. My real name is Christopher Ryan Kelly - I choose to use Christopher Ryan because adding my last name is dangerous - but sometimes I don't manage to keep my last name out of things, nor do i bother with spell check because after writing really long posts with one hand the last thing you want to do is go back and use a trackpad one handed to change all the typos. I dont care if I spell spastic quadriplegic wrong when Ive written two very long posts that took avery long time to complete. I dont drive, mass transportation in my state for the disabled has to be booked in advance, which makes advertising a small business in my area very difficult. I joined these forums because I figured - hell - if phootshop cant make me any money working from home maybe 3D modeling will. As far as buying new equipment obviously thats entirely up to me, pardon me for asking about whats most important, because I DONT KNOW -ANYTHING- about what hardware best serves a mac enthusiast that builds 3D models working from home. I didnt ask wacom for a free drawing tablet (can I use that with sketchup?), I didnt ask unicomp for a free keyboard and i didnt ask for a free copy of CS3 Design Premium or all the other software Ive bought along the way - but after you've spent over 4k on equipment and training and haven't managed to get off welfare and are still paying that total bill off in $400 increments and your first gen macbookpro is starting to show its age and your still not making any money on your own you start to get desperate. I DIDNT know the free version was all that was needed until someone said something to the contrary but Im not going to apologize for asking a corporation worth billions of dollars to cut me a break because its just not financially feasible for me to throw down another half a grand on software that I now know I don't need to be successful. I'd rather be respectfully denied than miss an oportunity to simply ask for help - the worst they can say is no, and thus far they haven't said anything. I could still use a hand figuring out how to best control sketchup one handed - but after the reception Ive gotten - being called a fraud a liar and other profane things -- having to prove I am what I say I am - which you probably wont believe regardless of the proof I provided above, I think its in my best interest to leave the self righteous to their own devices and move on. I'll figure out sketchup on my own. Just like I have with everything else, and figure out controlling it by trial and error. I'm also not going to apologize for asking for a push in the right direction as far as thats concerned either. I'm a positive person attempting to do the best with what Ive got, and there have been several kind hearted folk that have PM'ed me with information I couldn't get from the forum itself, so take a deep breath and forget I exist. I certainly wont be posting there again - except for the kick ass models i come up with without help... I'll rely on the kind hearted folks that have approached me in private and call it a day. If the link I provided isn't good enough for you - nothing ever will be. And as for the rest of you - there was a day when you didnt know a thing about sketchup and I'm betting even money that you posted here with questions just like me, and made assumptions that were corrected just like me, the only difference being - I posted a request of Google in the wrong place because they didnt provide or I simply didnt find an email address where my requests and control questions could be answered by the folks that put all the goodies together thus I took a chance and posted it on the forums. I wont be making that mistake ever again.

Say what, try the free version first for six months or so. See if you like it, and whether you really do need the Pro version. If it turns out you can't go without the Pro version, I'll gladly put $ 100 into whatever sort of 'SU piggy bank' we'll come up with. That's a promise.
As for being 'called a fraud and a liar' - the net's full of scams. People have become careful. Can you blame them?
PM me in six months, and let me know how you fared.

I did mention the mouse to you in an earlier post, which will drastically improve your workflow in SU.
You really do not need anything to control SU one handed. The only difference I see is speed. You may not be quite as fast as an experienced SU user using many keyboard shortcuts, but who cares!
Get the mouse I advised and you are well on track to making your life with SU a little easier. -
I'm wondering if a trackball would be better for your particular condition...finger manipulation rather than wrist? Some have quite a few programable shortcut buttons.

Hey Chris,
You offered to provide 'proof' that you are actually who you say you are and then when I take you up on the offer, you use it as an opportunity to attack me. I have not posted any derogatory comments and yet you treat me with the same contempt that you accuse others of exacting on you. You might want to think about that.On another note: If you decide to pursue your photo editing venture, you can post to the Digital Photo thread started by 'nomeradona' and we will be happy to offer any help we can.
Thanks for the 'vid', I applaud your courage and wish you well in your future endevours.

I'd go even further - if you try SU free (which indeed contains ALL the modelling tools SU Pro does) and you are both contented with it and still feel the real need for SU Pro, I'll try to contact Google so that they let me give one of my (otherwise non-transferable) licenses for SU 7 Pro (yes, for some reason, I now have two legallicenses - one stuck to my name but the other one "nameless").
This way we could spare Stinkie a hundred bucks he could spend on inviting us for some beers the first time we meet somewhere.@unknownuser said:

Indeed this may sound sad but as he wrote; you have to understand any kind of doubts on Internet nowadays.

Well, if I have one license, I can use it on as many computers as I want so what's the use of a second one unless giving it away (provided Google allows me to - as especially with SU I'd not like to do any piracy of course)

that's basically the way i got my license (though iirc, it was via @last and not google -- ver.4?).. a company that contracts me for the majority of my work had 2 licenses and they transferred one to me and my OS..

Chris, its unfortunate that you have 'had' to verify your identity to those of us (myself included especially) who were cynical upon reading your request. I apologise for any offence caused though my comments were based from previous experiences from this cynical world that we live in where there are many who underservingly try to gain what they can from life (out of greed) and completely overwhelm the tiny few (like yourself) who should catch a break given that they're live's are tough enough. I would happily see get a license for free and applaud the kind offers made by those above. If you do come back and read this topic again please take a few seconds to consider that it is my opinion ( and hopfeully others) that over the last 10-11 years I've used the internet I can easily say this forum contains some of the nicest people I had communicated online with and I'm sure that we'd all be glad to see your models posted in the gallery section.
Best of luck and happy modelling.

A big thankyou to all here who have taken the time to help. As it turns out, Hebrides has some influence at Google, got my message up the chain of command and Google has been in touch with miracle in hand... Many thanks to all those that have gone out of their way to help me in private and most of all -- THANK YOU GOOGLE. Theres still the question of what i am going to do about control - but i think im going to leave that up to a logitech SpaceNavigator for Notebooks and a logitech trackball... I may have to dual boot windows to get the right controller. Im also going to try it with my tablet.
once again, thanks to those with the warm kind hearts and selfless guidance. Most of all thank you to my sources google based and those ive spoken with in private alike! My humblest apologies to those I offended, past and present. This forum appears to have thenicest people the internet has to offer... I'll be leaning o you when it gets rough to get the results i want. NO DOUBT THERE.
Peace:
...now on to training

Chris,
this is great news, looking forward to seeing your designs and Thanks Google! -
...and remember: plugins and rubies are a great way to make modeling faster and easier, and most of them are free. Also, if you ever want to render anything, may I suggest kerkythea? It's free, easy to use, and can acheive great results.
All those are sketchup models, rendered with kerkythea.
(If the pictures take up too much space, I'll remove some. Just giving you some ideas/ inspiration) -
yeah dude im only 14 and i don't have pro and some of the things i model are IMO pretty good.
-
This is good news. As for training, I got two "Go 2 School" dvd's I no longer need. I could toss 'em across the Atlantic. They're fun, and they do a good job at introducing novices to SU.
Anyone else got something useful?

A SU T-shirt (or a pair of barely used socks)?
Joking apart - come on, Chris, start posting those questions about how to model this and that...

Hi Christopher,
I am pleased to see you got the help from Google that you hoped for.
I have to say though, I feel one forum member has taken some unfair criticism for saying what I believe many reading your first forum posting felt.In regard to your original posting, I have spent the past decade working in design for the auto makers.
I would recommend that you contact suppliers to the auto makers rather than the car companies themselves. Trust me, the kind of HUD you are referring to will come from a supplier. I hope they may help you.See the links for supplier examples:
