How do you get the "OnTouch" and "OnTick" to work?
-
I also want to know their functions
-
so do we all, but cphillips isn't on at the moment so it will be a while for him to help us, we are on our own...
-
wait a sec, yes he is, HELP US
-
OnTick and OnTouch are not fully functional yet. They are not supposed to be in the RC. They will be in the SP3 experimental release.
-
oh man!
-
Well. At least we still have the beta version, which still has undiscovered ways that we can incorporate the features into models.
-
Since the cat is out of the bag here is a video of some of the OnTouch & OnTrigger features in action.

This is pretty complex. The cone always points at the yellow sphere. The blue cylinder will follow the cone around (sort of like a dog). When the purple cube is touched it will cause the cone to start emitting. If anything touches the yellow sphere it will shoot out a copy sideways.
The cool thing is there is not one joint, thruster, emitter, gyro or magnet in that scene. Just OnTouch and OnTick. Pretty nifty.
-
Ooh... oooooohhhhhhh! So this is the collision detection.....
-
so can you give examples that you used in the vid?
-
It doesn't work with the rc version.
-
Wait, hold on. you mean i can't get anything in the vid to work? what about everything else?
-
I mean the newest features, other than fixed joint.
-
Yes. The video is for the next version. It is called SP3x (for experimental) and will probably be out in a few days.
The reason for 2 versions is that models that use OnTouch and OnTick might not work in future releases.
I am not planning on restricting 3dwarehouse. But I want to make it clear that these models are much more likely to break in the future.
I am really happy that most 2.0 models still work in 3.0 and I want to try to keep that going.
